  1. Hi,

I want to convert Real Media Music and few Movies to AVI or MPEG format.

This is bacause i am planing to start a Music Website, i want to use Microsoft Media Player as its available in all windows computers. If i use Real Media format, visitors need to download and install Real One Player.

So i want to convert Real Media format to WMA format.

If i could get RM files counverted to any format like AVI, MPEG, MP3, etc... i can convert it to WMA or WMV Format using Sound forge or Ulead Video Studio.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

No offense but you are going to start a web site, but can't figure out the answer to your question. Maybe you should put the horse before the cart and not the other way around. You might find out that Real Player is the more accepted standard on most web site wether they have to download the player or not.

  3. Hi jdizzy40,

I have a web site on film. Now i have a few RM files in "Film Songs" link. I want to add more. Before adding more music, i need to append a small advertisement to the songs at the end, so each downloaded music will bring more visitors to my site. Many of my music/video collections are Real Media Format. I don't find any s/w to edit RM files to do this.

I thought of using WMA as standard as it also generate files of same size, i tried converting a song to both RM and WMA, i feel like WMA can also give same quality, not very sure about it. Yes, lot of sites use RM Format, Is it because WMA/WMV formats are new ?

If i am using WMA or WMV, i can use many available tools, even Microsoft gives Free WMEncoder.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

Also Media Player, like Internet Explorer, is available by default on all computers, So i feel it worth using MS formats.

I am totally new to Video and Audio editing, only few weeks experience.

Can anyone please tell me how to edit "RM" Movies and Songs or Covert it to other format for editing ?

    Thanking you,

Realmedia Helix producer has an editor in the install package to let you cut and paste rm and rmvb video format. Eovideo will let you convert rm and rmvb format to avi or mpeg format.

TINRA (This Is Not Real Anymore) also lets you convert to AVI.

You can choose your codec and settings. The only problem is it can't go faster than real time.

You do realise that every conversion you make (e.g. from RM to AVI to WMA etc..) is likely to degrade the quality of the final clip?

You could try using TINRA to output to a lossless codec like HuffyUV, and use that AVI for editing... but you're still going to lose quality when you do the next step and re-encode to something like WMA.

    Also, to say...

is not entirely true! What about Mac/Linux etc..?

Admittedly Windoze/M$ PC's are in a great majority, but it's not always a good idea to exclude the 5-10% of people who use a different platform.

(By-the-way does anyone know of a good source of stats on OS usage - most of the figures I've seen are very biased one way or the other?)

    cheers,

i have found away 2 do this... fist of all get rid of your real players...

    this is what you need:
    (1) real player alternative
    (2) codecs (these 2 you get from the kazaa lite web site and that is http://www.kazaalite.tk/
    (3) rawaverecoder
    (4) TMPGEnc

All you do is extract the audio using (3) then open (4) and well you know the rest... and there you go...

It works i was at my wits end till i tried this and now i'm happy... please if this works for you to please post this on other websites so everyone else can benifit from it...
