    You can't gain anything by trying to convert a 2-channel audio sorce to a 6 channel audio file.

    You can never upconvert, only downconvert audio channels. That is convert AC 5.1 to AC 2 or MP3(MPEG4) or MP2(mpeg2) or PCM (MPEG1). You can go sideways and convert a 2-channel mp3 to AC 2 and vice versa.

    Don't confuse bitrate/sampling conversions with the number of channels.

    Dolby surround is 2-channel multiplex(4 net channels), but don't expect 4 full channels at the same time. AC5.1 downconverts to Dolby Surround quite nicely for SVCD's.
