  1. I just got some BeAlls and some Samsung Media from Rima. On their website, its listed as two different brands and sold at two different prices, with the Samsung brand being higher. On the surface, the Samsung media's inner ring has the word SAMSUNG, printed on it. Anyway, I found the media codes really interesting. Here they are

    Samsung Media code:
    Media Information
    Region info N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
    Media code/Mfr ID BeAllG00001
    Formatted Size Blank
    Total Size Blank(4.7GB?)
    Book Type DVD-R
    Media type V2.0 DVD-R
    Media Id Code Speed Unknown

    BeAll Media code:
    Media Information
    Region info N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
    Media code/Mfr ID BeAllG00001
    Formatted Size Blank
    Total Size Blank(4.7GB?)
    Book Type DVD-R
    Media type V2.0 DVD-R
    Media Id Code Speed Unknown

  2. @LanEvo...i'm pretty sure that this is one case where you can just purchase the Beall's because they are the same disks. I believe that one of two things are very likely. One, Samsung actually manufacturers both disks, and knows that some people will pay more for the "Samsung" name...because that's more known then "BEALL." Remember, most people who purchase media, have no clue about media id's..etc. Hell, i've read posts here from users who have been around for a while who actually think Verbatim makes their own disks. I wonder what posts those people have been reading.

Anyway, I wouldn't even worry about the two disks...their almost certainly the same exact disk. Production probably comes from the same warehouses...same disks...same stampers...only differences is the "Samsung" name on one....and if you look at the DVD writer compatibility chart from Rima...it is identical for both disks.

It's another swift example of a marketing Gimmick by these online sites. You caught on to Meritline raising their prices and selling the Bealls for 20 % off....many businesses do that...I don't find anything wrong with that...that's business..and clever marketing.

The same thing here....that's why Rima doesn't specify "SAMSUNG BEALLS"...they specifically sell "SAMSUNGS" "AND" "BEALLS"....if they sold "SAMSUNG BEALLS"...then people would catch on. Pretty slick actually.....they can do that with renowned names like Samsung. They couldn't do that with names like "RITEK" because if they called disks "G04" for example....most wouldn't have a clue what they were...and they certainly couldn't raise the price with an unknown name/disk like that. But a known "NAME" they can do that with.

If you are purchasing these...go with the Bealls and save yourself some money.

  4. oh, ok.....I thought you were asking about the differences because you didn't mention that they were the same disks. YOu just mentioned the media id's being the same. I figured I'd post on it because there have been issues where media id's appear to be the same, but the disks, are in fact different. One case is the Long...Ten disks that all the online sites are selling under the Extreme/Matrix/Speedy/GQ name..etc..etc.

The media id's are exactly the same...but the ones coming from Taiwain appear to be better quality. More tests have to be done...but that's what it looks like thus far.

Anyway, if you check other online sites...they do similar things with the "BEALLS"...I wonder which site came up with the idea first. The online sites are pretty much "copy cats" so to speak. The truth is that I can't think of another brand name media they can do this with...because all the name brand media are strictly "NAME BRAND."

For example...Verbatim, TDK, MAXELL....etc. Those companies don't have "generic" media under their name....so there's no marketing ploy to put into affect. The disks actually used to be called "SAMSUNG BEALLS" from a lot of the online sites...but most of those sites have also done the same and specify "two" seperate disks now. That additional .10 cents or so make a huge difference over the quantities of disks these online sites sell.

People really have to keep up with all the media and scams to understand which ones are legit and which ones are illegit.

  5. BeAll actually manufactures Samsung DVD-R media. The discs which are now called BeAll were previously called Samsung BeAll. BeAll now produces Samsung DVD-Rs called Samsung DigitAll, so both brands are actually a spinoff of the Samsung BeAll discs. And as others have mentioned, they are both essentially the same.
