Hi, can anyone help?
I have tried using Moviejack 3 to rip a DVD to handheld avi format for my PDA but have had no luck. I have the latest version upgraded from the website, but cannot get success.
Firstly, although the guide says that in one of the steps I should be able to select the codec to use (DivX being the preferred option), this does not come up.
Secondly, the program processes around 60-70% of the movie and then throws up an error in processing.
Thirdly, although I have selected a 256MB card as the output filesize, the resulting file appears to be being made much bigger than that.
My questions are:-
1. Has anyone else had similar problems and found a way round them,
and
2. Are there any other programs that will process DVD movies into a handheld movie format?

yes, I have the DivX 2.0 player installed on my system.
Strangely, the playback of one of the output files that is created displays the DivX logo so I suppose that it must be converting into that codec. -
I`m NOT SURE but what if you use AVI instead of handheld
Hit "JackIt", the VideoCompression window comes up,
select DivX Pro 5.0.5 codec, hit Configure, then the original codec settings comes up and you can select handheld movie, size ... etc.
I`m also not sure if DrDivX can do handheld but its worth a try.
MovieJack is a good "OneClick" solution for DVD to VCD,etc... but
as the others doesn`t give you the best quality so I`d do it the hard way.
Never converted to handheld though.
Also MovieJack had lots of problem with ripping NTSC DVDs
I don`t know if they fixed it yet but sometimes ripping to the HDD first helped (DVDDecrypter) -
the option you show in the screenshot doesn't appear.
I have tried using DVDDecrypter to rip the disc to my HDD first and then running Movejack, and runnig it straight from the DVD but no joy.
I have tried both the Handheld Movie and AVI output format options and in neither case did I get the Video Compression window appearing.
I suspect the version of software that I have is not complete. Did you purchase your version? -
Go to pocketmatrix.com, they have a very good dvd to divx guide.for mpegs, there are 3 other ways to do it:
#1 use dvd decryptor as you normally do, dvd2avi, then tmpeng, then windows media encoder(free from microsoft web site) or if you are using WinXP import into movie maker(there is already a preset for pocket pc)
#2 use dvd decryptor, dvd2avi, tmpeng.no wthat you have an mpeg1,run it through tmpeng again250 kbit rate, 304x208,audio=64k stereo- i have a premade template). to play this mpeg go to pocket tv and download free player
#3 use eazyvcd settings= xvcd.99 mins 1 disc, hit start, run it through tmpeng again250 kbit rate, 304x208,audio=64k stereo- i have a premade template).
all these work great on pocket pc. for palm try kinoma producer. it has everything preset for you,

@tompika, I managed to get the settings options after a complete re-install but the error in processing still occurs. On reading the forum postings I shut down every other process including my firewall etc, but the error still happened at 85%. I have now sent several e-mails to engelmann.com to see if they can come up with anything.
In the meantime, dr divx seems to be what I'm looking for, will keep you posted. -
further findings with Movie Jack:- the processing seems to stop at 85% now no matter what settings I use.
Tried Dr DivX but couldn't specify the settings I wanted.
Trying DVDx at the moment. Seems to have let me specify the settings I need and many more besides. Will play around with it and see what results I get. -
@bloo,
could you please post the settings to use in TMPGEnc for the first method you mention, and also how to use MovieMaker? I'd like to see the results this method gives.
