I use Dvd Decrypter, Smartripper, ifoedit, dvd shrink 2.3, dvd2one, I have had very good luck backing up all my movies except for Patriot, Basic, Tears of the sun and XXX. Movie is there and sometimes the sound is there on some of the chapters. Have tried several different approaches with programs mention above. Have read hundreds of forums. And have ran into people with same problem. BUt no one has ever had a answer. Can any one help.

You know, some of my players just don't like the sound from Tears of the Sun either. That's weird, huh? Haven't gotten around to actually trying the original, I assumed that it was because I had re-encoded it.

I did a backup of Basic using TMPGEnc and authoring the DVD with DVDLab. DVDLab muxed the video and audio. This was a movie only DVD and only had one English AC3 audio track. I did not have any issues. If you are doing a full disk backup, maybe DVDShrink or DVD2One change something with the pointers in the IFO files. I know when I played the VOBs from the movie on the Elecard Mpeg player, it listed three audio tracks. I selected the first one. The first one in the list played Spanish and not English.

Hmmm, that sure sounds like a DTS problem to me.
When you play these on your standalone player have you tried switching sound channels using your player remote? I would certainly try this.
The only movie I have of those three is "The Patriot" (I'm assuming you mean this one -- the Mel Gibson one?) I was thinking of getting "Tears" so I might be able to try that as well. But I can't try anything like this until this weekend."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
Ok after trying every combination that i know possible I have been able to come up with sound in the last vob, but no sound in the first 3. Any ideas

same here as [b]mkelly
I've made perfect backups with DVD2One of the movies The Patriot and XXX. Also selected DTS, but when your receiver don't support DTS you don't have sound. Try switching sound channels using your remote. Must work. -
I backed up Tears and Basic with no problems at all. Although I dont have a DTS decoder and I didn't select that audio track. Just choose the 5.1 and you will be fine
