  1. i have one of the dvd camcorder, and i am trying to edit the footage on the discs i have in premiere. i have the clips in mpeg 2, which i have noticed that it is not very suitable for editing. when i do a render of the clip i get dropped frames, which causes jerky motions. one solution i have thought about is to convert mpeg 2 to avi then edit. does anyone has any comments? are there any good freeware converter out there? i saw several sharewares on download.com, but i would rather not like to spend money. or if you have other solutions, i would really appreciate any input.

    thank you.

if you want convert mpeg2 to avi Virtualdub is the best.
if you want to make vcd or svcd try TMPGEnc.

Those DVD cameras aren't good if you plan on editing, you're better off with a DV-Cam. MPEGs are dificult to edit. I would use Virtualdub-Mod to convert to avi (you want to add a DV codec so you can ouput to DV-AVI).

Understand that after editing and converting back to MPEG-2, you will loose some quality.
