I'll start from the beginning, I convert svcd to dvd video this way:
1) extracting the mpeg from the bin/cue with svcd2dvdmpg
BIN -> ES and 352 on 1st header
2) add the video and audio streams in DVD Lab
3) compile the .vob's
4) repatch vobs with svcd2dvdmpeg to 480 (entire file)
worked like a charm the first film, plays perfectly in both software dvd and
standalone Pioneer DV-717.
Made two other dvd's exactly the same way - plays perfectly in software
dvd player - but on standalone dvd the image is cropped horisontally,
cutting off both left and right edges a bit. (side note: it looks the image is extended beyond normal resolution since faces of people etc appear wider)
Tried a fourth film: worked just as fine as the first one - no problems with standalone dvd...
Exactly what makes this and how can I avoid it? (since all are okey in software dvd player), all videos are the same ntsc 480x480 4:3 format.
I liked this method since it's fast, doesn't need re-encoding which take hours...
Thank you

DVD Lab recognizes SVCDs automatically (it does no recompression, except for audio), so there is no need to patch the files or use svcd2dvdmpg.. just rip the SVCD from the .bin with something like VCDEasy, and import the resulting MPEG into DVD Lab. It will automatically convert the audio for you to 48 Khz. The extra patching that you are doing could be causing your problems. You can read about DVD Lab's recognition of SVCDs here:

I'm afraid that DVD-Lab's 44.1-48k conversion doesn't work,
it just says "can't access file - check if file is not in use"....
which of course the output file aint...
will try with BeSweet as external encoder
