  1. First off I appoligize if I put this in the wrong spot but I really wasn't sure where this would go.

I was doing great captures as of last weekend. Finally had it all figured out when I went out and picked up a 60 gig drive for extra space. Ever since, I can not play videos, seek through them in TMPGEnc, or anything. If I start a video playing it crashes. If I use TMPGEnc's mpeg tools and try to trim the file down, as soon as I seek through the movie it locks up. And once in a while Dr. Watson tries to intercept the crash but claims it shut down too quickly. This stinks, I've spent the money so I could finally do 2 hours at a time, and now I am stuck not being able to do any...

Please if you have any ideas, pass them my way. Thanks...

  2. You didn't say if the new hard drive works OK with other applications. If it doesn't then there's something seriously wrong with it or your motherboard can't put it to correct use. Are you familiar with BIOS settings? Most motherboards are able to auto detect hard disks but maybe you have an older one and you have to manually identify your disk.
If it does work OK with everything except TMPEG, you should try using an older/newer version of TMPEG. It's a cheap trick but it may work. Remove all TMPEG components and registry entries and re-install. Dr Watson should have a tool for complete removal of a program, as TMPEG hasn't got an unistall feature it could be hard to remove all registry entries.
In any case, you should do a complete surface scan of the new disk, as there may be bad tracks on it.

  3. Yes the hard drive functions fine with normal things. It is a dual boot and 98. All my games in 98 are fine, ofice 2k is fine, photoshop6. But the issue is not only TMPGEnc. ANY kind of video work. Just playing a video with media player and it will just close down after a few seconds, or after a half minute. No specific time. But it doesn't last long. I though it might be something software related that I installed. I usually keep my 2k installation clean, only used for capturing, but recently I installed one game. So I rebuilt the system completely and still the problem is there. The media problem is in 98 also. Can't play video's there without crashes either. The OS continues fine, but the application is hosed. It has to be something with the motherboard, but I am not sure what. I have a KT7A-Raid. I have the raid disabled in the BIOS right now. I am not really sure what else to try.

    P.S.
I have unplugged the drive and am still having the issues, so it has to be something in the motherboard.

    Thanks,
    Carrier
