  1. Im trying to create standard svcd's as my dvd player will only play standards. I just wanted to know the correct settings to use in tmpgenc to create a standard svcd when the source avi is different. For example what do i use if the source is 29.97 fps or 23.97??? and also does it make a difference when creating a pal svcd which is 480x576 or a ntsc of 480x480 what resolution size the source is??? Thank you for any help you can give me as at the moment i am encoding every movie 3-4 times to get it to play in my dvd!!! thanks...

  2. For a 29.97 fps avi you load the SVCD NTSC template and for 23.97 fps avi you load the NTSC FILM template. The SVCD will be in the right resolution if you select the 1:1 aspect ratio.

  4. You gotta figure the pixel resolution of your source AVI. If you want widescreen, you need to set the output format to 16:9 in TMPGEnc, If you want fullscreen, you need to set the output to 4:3 in TMPGEnc. If you want SUPER widescreen (i.e.:2.35:1,2.37:1,2.4:1, etc) then you gotta letterbox it into a widescreen frame (I know, it sounds kind of difficult). To do this, you need to divide the width of your source avi by it's height, which will give you the aspect ratio of the movie. If it is 1.85:1 or 1.78:1, then go ahead and just encode it to 16:9 in TMPGEnc. Otherwise, you need to divide "1" by the quatient and multiple the resulting decimal by 853.3333333.... From there, you use the resize filter in VirtualDub and make the New width 480 and the new height whatever you got. Then, in TMPGEnc, set the output to 16:9. This worked for me, and it should yeild a compliant SVCD MPEG!

Use Full Screen (keep aspect ratio) so that your output isn't stretched or squished.
