I have been doing my backups on DVDR using the following process:

    1) Use DVDDecrypter to load DVD to hard-drive.
    2) Use IFOEDIT to strip foreign language audio and subtitles.
I open VIDEO_TS and all other IFO files, click on strip streams, unclick foreign language audio, subtitles. Resulting files go into a 'stripped' folder.
    3) Use DVDSHRINK to get data down to burnable size.
I set MENUS and EXTRAS to level 8, set movie to lowest compression that will fit.
    4) Burn to DVDR using COPYTODVD.

    My questions are:
    1) If I am just stripping the foreign audio and subtitles do I need to go through the IFOEDIT step? DVDSHRINK will let me strip off the foreign audio and subtitles. Does IFOEDIT do something else that DVDSHRINK doesn't?

    2) If I use IFOEDIT I don't click on GET VTS SECTORS and everything turns out okay. Under what circumstances would I need to to click on GET VTS SECTORS? Would this only apply if I am removing something from a VOB file?

I have read the guides but they don't always spell it out clearly. I would appreciate any help.

  2. If that is all you doing skip the ifoedit part.

  3. IfoEdit is generally used to strip unwanted audio, etc. when you think that you have a chance of the stripped movie being less than 4.37gb. Any of the transcoding programs will strip out extras for you, but you can do all this now with DVDShrink. So, if that's what you want to do, don't bother with IfoEdit.

Don't strip the subs if you keep menus.
It removes the selection highlights and/or pointers.
Menu still works but you can't see what's selected.

Thanks. That should speed up the process.
