Hi,
I've some fansubed anime series and I want to transfer then on DVD.
As an example, a DivX .avi source have a length of 22.34 minutes and a framerate of 23.976 fps. When I listen to the video with BSPlayer, the audio is completely in sink with the video.
I'm using TMPGEnc (v.2.53.35.130) and transforme the .avi source in Mpeg2. Since I want to put between 6 and 7 episodes / DVD, I use a video bitrate of 3500 kbps and an audio bitrate of 192 kbps in mp2 format, but those are the only change I do from the DVD NTSC Template. I do a 3:2 pulldown when playback, because I'm in Canada and I need NTSC. Then, when the conversion is done, if I listen to the resulting Mpeg2 in Windows Media Player, the audio and the video are STILL in sink. There is still no problem.
Then I author my DVD with Ulead DVD Workshop (v.1.0). I import the Mpeg2 file without any problem, I create the menus and finaly and finish the authouring by making the \video_ts folder (to make every vob files). When I play the resulting DVD folder (directly on the hard drive or on a DVD-RW or a DVD-R) using my computer (with WinDVD or Sonic CinePlayer) or my home DVD player (Panasonic SL-GC10 or Hitachi DV-P250). The audio is now out of sink with the video. The video is shiffting more and more before the audio and the shifft is about 1 to 2 second at the end of a 22.34 minutes episode.
Ulead DVD Workshop don't seem to convert the Mpeg2 file like it does when I import directly the avi file. The \video_ts is create directly when the menu is rendered.
If I use Ulead Movie Factory, the audio is also out of sink.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong in the process?
Thanks!!

I have the same problem sometimes. The AVI is OK but after I extract the sound to WAV /Virtualdub/ and convert it to AC3 the audio is out of sync. Any general guide how to fix audio out of sync problems?
Cheers! -
Ditto from this end Lotus Man,
I have captured in MpegII and in DVD format using my Leadtek Winfast card an 80 minute TV broadcast and experienced the exact same problem.
Captured file plays fine with MediaPlayer or WinDVD. Once I run it through TMPGencAuthor or even through Pro and then Author the output file suffers from audio synch problems which increase as the track plays on.
I have tried de-muxing and then re-muxing as suggested elsewhere to no avail.
All of my trouble shooting tells me that the capture is good, the Nero burning is good but the problem appears to be in the middle.
I even used DVD lab instead of TMPGenc (which I keep reading is not good with audio) and got the same results.) Really stumped.
Would love to hear if it is possible my capture is not good because of problem with audio settings, which Leadtek does not allow you to change much.
Would also accept recommendation to try another capture card if anyone can identify the problem as being the Leadtek card.
BTW, is there any relationship with Leadtek and Hauppage considering both their cards are "Winfast"? Cause me a lot of confusion on this board.
Thanks to anyone for help.

I had the same problem for months. What I finally did (thanks to advice from bugster) was use TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 to split the mpeg2 into its elementary streams. You can do this from File -> MPEG Tools -> Simple Demultiplex. This will create a m2v (video) and a mp2 (audio).
Most authoring tools will accept these. For example, in Ulead MF2.0 (not sure about 1.0) you can add the m2v file then import an alternate audio source. You will have to change the extension from mp2 to mpa for it work in MF2.0. In TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5.whatever, when you add your m2v file it will automatically pick up your mp2 as your audio assuming they are in the same folder. After you author, play your files using PowerDVD or WinDVD. More than likely they will be in sync and you can then burn to DVD. However, this process hasn't worked every time for me. I'd say I have about a 85% success rate.
Whew...I think that covers it. Let me know if you have problems."If it ain't broke, break it and make it better." -
Thanks MickeyD:
In my case, I have tried that several times using different progs to re-integrate the audio and video files without success.
I have not yet used MF2 however and will try it as you suggest and let you know if it works.
Thanks again

Remember, don't remultiplex the files. Leave them in their elementary forms to author.

@Gregg
I'm confused. You want your audio in AC3 format for better compatability with what? Do you intend to author and burn to DVD?"If it ain't broke, break it and make it better." -
As far as I know NTSC standard requires at least one of the audio tracks to be in AC3 format. LPCM is OK but it's a major waste of space. If you noticed most of the DVDs come with AC3 audio.
Yes I'm authoring and burning regularly as well.
Thank you for your note about not remultiplexing. I'll try it.
Enjoy! -
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I had to come across this situation and work through it before posting back.
I found an avi that had ac3 audio and went from there. Here's what I did,
1) Started Nandub and loaded the avi.
2) Saved the wav (Direct stream copy mode).
3) Fixed the wav in BeSliced to produce ac3.
4) Encoded the avi using TMPGEnc (ES - Video Only).
5) Used TMPGEnc DVD Author to author with the mpv and the fixed ac3.
I think that is what you're looking for. Let me know if I'm off base here."If it ain't broke, break it and make it better." -
Thanks for all advice.
I've tryed your advice, but I've never be able to get audio perfectly in sync with the video with Movie Factory 2. So I changed to DVD-Lab and now everything is fine and in sync.
