  1. I am sure it has been touched many times before, but again:

What is the difference between DVD and DV in quality?
Once I transfer my 720x480 miniDV recording onto HDD (before compression) I haven't lost anything yet (loseless 1394 transfer), can I burn it as a short VOB file onto a CDR (not DVD-+R) and see the same quality as if I were to connect miniDV cam to a TV?

Well, you can burn it to a DVD, but not as a .VOB. A .VOB is the extention for a DVD Video OBject. But I know nothing that would be able to view it (besides the computer).

Just convert the thing to DVD. You will loose quality for sure, but it will not be preceptable to your human eye (that is, if you truly are human and provided that you use a high enough bitrate).
