  1. Hi all,

    Before I start yes my DVD player plays VCDs.

    I bought a set of cartoons. 2 discs work fine on dvd player but the other 6 dont. They look ok when I open the files up on my PC. By that i mean there are .dat files and everything. Due to this it will play on my PC but not on my DVD player.

    Anyone got any ideas how I can use these DAT files to re-make the VCDs?

    A step by strp guide would be nice as im a bit new to all this but any ideas would be appreciated!

    Thanks all.

  3. Its a Bush dvd player. The discs dont work on my player or any of my friends so it must be the discs themselves.

    anywayz, put the messed up VCDs into your computer.

    copy the .dat files into your hdd using windows explorer.

    get vcdeasy and do a dat->mpg conversion...i believe there's an option in that program to fix/repair broken blocks or something...so, it should be able to fix the .dat file for you.

    with the mpg file, use nero's VCD template to burn the VCD (drag-and-drop the file)

  5. Hi there,

    Thanks for that. I ahve sorted it by copying te dat files onto the hard drive, then use nero straight away to burn back onto the cds.

    Thanks

    Are you burning as VCD in Nero? Just choose VCD and add the dat file(s) and burn.

    converting DAT to MPG ? just copy the file back to hard drive and change the extension from DAT to MPG

  8. @Baldrick,

    it sounded like tyders may have had some broken blocks in his .dat file, hence i suggested the extra step of vcdgear.

    @pharlap,

    if you change the .dat file just by renaming it to .mpg file, it will still technically work, but there will be VCD headers in there, which is not suppose to be present in .mpg files. vcdgear .dat->.mpg conversion removes those VCD headers.

    @tyders,

    my bad...it's not vcdeasy, but rather vcdgear....vcdeasy is a burning proggie
