    For myself, id just connect to the other comptuer via ethernet crossover, and then copy the files from one to the other. On a PC how to tell you to do that is beyond me.

    But couldn't you just pull the HD and put it in the other PC and copy that way? That would be the fastest I think.

    If you have network interface cards in both systems, and you have a CAT5 NULL MODEM cable, then go here:

    Even if you do not have network cards, you can do the same thing my using and RS232 NULL modem cable between the serial ports, it should finish over night.
    Just what is this reality thing anyway?

    No... I use this method to transfer from W2K to WIN98 machines. The RS232 method will work, too... if you have the time.

    Make sure you have all source drives set to share. Do you have a NULL CABLE (AKA: Cross-ever cable)?

    ::edit::after realizing i have a dual OS i'll try this all over again w/ windows 98 (i just hope it wont freeze in the middle of a huge transfer).
    ::edit::nevermind.

  12. hmm.. seems like it would be easier just to pull the harddrive from one computer, put it in the other, copy the shit over, then put the harddrive back in the original computer.

    a patch cable needs to be plugged into a hub - a crossover cable reverses a couple of lines so they are correct on the other end.

    on a regular patch cable (drawing on the left), the #1 wire is on the left - on the other end of the cable, the #1 is on the right.

    a crossover reverses the plug on the other end, so it plugs in with the wires in the correct orientation. (like the drawing on the right side)
