Thought I would try a new subject on this post...
Here is the issue:
I am trying to backup/reauthor a 2 disk DVD9 set on to 2 DVD-Rs. The main movie is about 6.8 Gigs is on the first DVD9. I would have to split this to two DVD-Rs to keep the quality, but both would have about 1 Gig of space left over after the split. Instead of wasting this space, I want to add about 2 Gigs of Special Features from the second DVD9 to fill both DVD-Rs up. Is there any way to do this???? For more confusing info see this post:

rename the xtras
leave the main video_ts ifo and bup file alone
but rename the vts_01_0 ifo and bup and the vob files
vts_02_0ifo
vts_02_0bup
vts_02_1vob
vts_02_2vob
add them to original folder (which should only be the main movie files or this won't work)
use dvd toolbox
create video manager, click ok, execute, and then click analyse
then use ifo edit
open main ifo
split to 2 disc -
i'd say for the complicated nature of that backup the results will not be worth the effort
either transcode/reencode, use more disks, or buy a second original as backup. any of these options will save you time and money -

I tried that method and it does work, but all the menus (for the special features disk) get screwed up -- none of the links work and you would probably have to modify each one manually which would take a long time...I've already spent forever on this, so I might try your method one more time just to be sure...I might just have to wait until someone writes some super software capable of doing this...[/img]
-
Perhaps in the authoring section you might get some additional help. If you made your own menu the other titles would work.
I'm not sure if you need to go through joining clips etc if you use something like dvdlab.
I have interest in figuring out what authoring program to use to make a menu and how to use it.
There have been a few times that I wanted to keep something that I did not know how to a the time. So to be ready when the opportunity arrises... -
I really want to keep the original menus, but the problem is keeping one or the other (the one from the first dvd or the one from the special features disk). I change them up somewhat with MenuEdit. When you use the Vance method above, it creates separate title sets for all the menu features, so you end up with a ton of title sets without working menu links. I think the problem lies with the VIDEO_TS.IFO files -- you can only keep one or the other, unless you want to spend the time (and know how to -- which I don't) to change up and combine both.

it won't work if u keep the menu of the first disc
i would problaly have to get the discs myself
to see exactly how they are written -
if they are not multi-angled dvd (75% of all dvds)
u can use neodvd plus, plus u could create new menus
u will have a serious a/v sync problem if the dvd is multi-angled -
i love potter man! haha
Just use dvd2one... it will look good ... dont worry! -
i will explain why u can't do what u want to do later. when i get back
-
when u do what u want to do
u will have to drop the menus
it a little too complicated to explain it
but it is impossible to change the ifo for the vts_01_0 (main menu vob of movies)of both discs when u are combining stuff because that ifo had u going to a specific point of the movie and combining that with other dvd info is impossible
now what u can do is figure which vobs has the features u want and u can just play it when u do it the way i explain ealier but u can't access it from a menu, also if u had two completely different menu attraction on that 2nd disc u could rename the third vobs and ifo vts_03_1,vts_03_2,vts_03_3etc and do the ifo and bup the same
and u can access that info from your titles button, but u can't access from the menu
u are going to have to give up something to do what u want to do -
Vance -- that is exactly the best that I could do for this dvd set and I may just have to stick with it if I want to author that way. I'm sure there is a way to manually correct, but that would take like a million years to do and I don't know how to do it at all. I'll just have to wait for some more information and developments....
