  1. Before I ugrade the firmware from original 1.0c out of box to 2.0f, are there any problems that arise from the upgrade. I also have 1.0f. I've been reluctant to upgrade til now because I always see people posting about the computer crashes and other various problems with many of the other updates. I've already reformatted my harddrive twice due to this drive so i want to be very careful. It looks like 1.0f is a safe bet if 2.0f doesn't work out.

  2. btw I am basically only interested in the update for speed increase. other than that the drive has been working great.

  3. what sort of speed increase do you mean?
Only improvement i can see from 1.0f is the burner seems to write or at least try to write to the cheaper media in a better way that results in a better readback. My guess is sony's put in some of those 'write strategies' into the firmware.

i have upgraded to 2.0f without any problem the upgrade will allow you to write at 4x to both dvd-r and dvd+r the 1,0c firmware only burns at 4x to dvd+r and 2x to dvd-r (media must be 4x certified to burn at 4x) firmware 2.0f apparently has beter support for cheap media however i cant see any differnce from 1.0c some cheap medias works some dont.

I would also like to point out that 4x ritek media only burns at 2x regardless of firmware version all other 4x media that i have tried burn at 4x

  5. I only use Accus. If you don't need the update, don't use it. Often it's not needed. meritline.com lists what does 4x on what writer.
