I have an avi on my pc which runs for 90 minutes
when i decompress it with the decompress proggy in avi2vcd it makes a new file which is only 23 mins long [pcm.avi]
Roughly only half the film is left
How can I compress it and get full length film
thx

Use Virtual Dub. Under audio choose "full process mode." Under video in "compression" choose "uncompressed rgb" and "full process mode." Then under file choose "save as avi." You will get a warning stating you are about to save an uncompressed file which will be very large. Click ok and then save your file. If you only want to save an uncompressed audio file under audio choose "full process mode", and under file choose "save wav." You will then have an uncompressed wav file. A better choice for saving an uncompressed audio file is a tool called goldwave.

Sp you want an avi with uncompressed audio but original video. Well, Laddydaddy was nearly right.
Open the avi in virtualdub.
Select:
Video->Direct Stream copy
Audio->Full processing Mode
Audio->Compression, PCM (none)
File-> save Avi
This will save a new copy of your avi with uncompressed audio but the original video stream.
Hope this helps -
thx
I did that
I now have a new avi file 1.5 gigs big
whats best programme to split it into two so i can make two vcds
thx -

Prob is my film now has bad lip synch problem and is unwatchable -
converted avi with tmp genc
i set it so it would only do one half first as you said
it made me a new file
at first the lips were in sync but just got worse -
A common cause of progressive sync loss like you describe is often caused by a framerate mismatch. Make sure you select a framerate in TmpGenc that matches tha framerate of the avi. Use vdub, File-File info to see waht framerate the avi is.

oi urbantus, did you read me guide in detail :P
defo true about frame mismatch, in vdub load the avi and then click file>file information and look top line will say either 25 or 23.967 or 29.97
which is pal/ntscfilm/ntsc
thats the same framerate you select in tmpgenc -

yep is 1.5 gigs because its now decompressed, dont worry about that at the mo as you will get yourself confused, beleive me i encoded a 15 gig, yes 15 gig avi to 1 vcd op 700 megs, with me guide
now load the avi into vdub and do the file/fileinformation bit and write down the fps (25.000,23.976,29.970) which in your case is 25 (PAL)
then goto audio/compression/none pcm
then save wav
in tmpgenc use the filmename_pcm.avi (your decompressed avi) as your video source
and the stripped wav as the audio
and go from there -
But the 1.5 gig file had poor lip sync
At the mo Ive split the original avi into two files using AVI MPEG splitter
I then decompressed both with avi2vcd successfully
I ended up with two files containing the whole film
Im now in process of converting each into mpeg using avi2vcd
Ill let you know how I get on
Cant think why I couldnt use decompressor prog succesfully with original avi
But it works ok when avi split into two files
Very odd
BTW I do want to use your way of getting a film onto one cd
But Ill try it on another film later -
that is strange, so let me get right your steps
you got avi and decompressed to create the _pcm.avi file and that was outta sync when played? -
At the mo Ive split the original avi into two files using AVI MPEG splitter
I then decompressed both with avi2vcd successfully
I ended up with two files containing the whole film
pcm_avi files
The lip sync is good
Ive then tried to change them into pcm_mpeg with avi2vcd
and there is lip sync
What can I do to these two pcm_avi files so I can end up with one or two cds with a viewable film
thx -
why are you using mpeg splitter
not needed
decompress original file with the decompresser it will create an avi called filename_pcm.avi, load that into vdub and then save wav with no compression (pcm)
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/matthew.neaves1/decompress.zip
here is the decompressor
thjen use that _pcm.avi for your video source and the saved wav as your audio -
As I said already
For some unknown reason the decompresor will only give me a file which runs for approx 28 minutes
My film should be 90 minutes
