well after reading reviews from here i bought a canapus or whatever advc 100 digital converter box to capture with. the program i got with the firewire card is unlead studio. i have used it and have tried divio to capture with. the problem i am having is that i cant capture more then 40minutes before the capture just stops. ive only gotten 40 mins twice the rest vary from 10 to 30 minutes before the capture just stops. i have no other programs running when i capture and i cant seem to capture a whole movie withought capturing peice by peice. i know my comp can handle it i have a p4 2.53 with 512 ram and a 80gig hd. can anyone help me out or tell me the best program to use. im very disapointed with this so far because i cant use vdub and i cant get a program to work properly. please help thankyou

First a few questions.
1. What operating system and file system are you running ?
2. Which DV codec do you have installed ?
3. What is you CPU load when you are capturing ?
4. Have you defragged your harddrive recently ?
5. How much free space do you have ?
6. Do you have DMA enabled ?
FYI.
I use a ADVC100 with Panasonic DV codec, with Scenalyzer (http://www.scenalyzer.com/main.html) as the capture software and it works great, on a slower machine that yours, so it's going to be something simple I would have thought.

hi pest2oo2..
What's the source you are capping from ??
* VCR ??
If it's from a VCR, then maybe your tapes are not in the best shape for
your ADVC-100.
I use one often, and I have never expeirenced what you have, and I use
DVIO under windows 98 and 4gig limit, which would only give me 18minutes
of caps. This is fine for me, since my projects are TV shows/movies, and
I just stop during the commercials.

im running xp pro
i defrag every week
im trying to capture a laserdisc
dma is enabled
with unlead and divio i dont get to choose a dv codec it chooses its own -
well i just defragged my comp and tried again and got 27minutes of capture before it just stopped.
the only question from block dog i cant understand is 2. Which DV codec do you have installed ? with unlead and divio it doesnt let you choose a codec unlike vdub. i am starting to wish i hadnt returned my aiw 9000 and bought this box. i would have returned allready except i bought on ebay trying to get a better deal and now i am waiting for the guy i bought from to email me back. if anyone knows something i dont please help me out here -
What 1394 card do u have? I have heard that this has caused certain issues, certain 1394 cards that is.
Also if you have access to a DV camera, try to see if the transfer stops with using that.

are you using the NTFS file system? FAT32 has a 4gig file limit. also, try using Scenalyzer Live to capture your video.
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler.
