  1. My sister is graduating from High School soon, and this is her last year with her dance group. They are throwing a party and we want to show a video there of her. I need to make a slide show from scanned pictures, and have music in the background. I can burn as a VCD/SVCD and then put it on a VHS Tape (it needs to be VHS in the end). Or it think i can figure out how to get the audio to work while using the TV-Out on my gfx card to capture the slide show. Does anyone know any good programs for making slide shows from scanned pictures (.jpg, .gif, or .bmp) Thanks!!

  2. Think Ulead Dvd Movie factory2 does, DVD, SVCD,VCD. VCD Easy might do what you want, can't remember!
Keep going till you get it right!!!

  3. You won't be able to have menus on a VHS tape.I suggest using Windows Movie Maker to author and then play full screen on PC and use TV out and speaker line-out on your soundcard for audio.
    Don't expect great quality.

  4. PictureShow (free trial, although limited) is my favorite at making easy slideshows on VCD (and can include video as well). But I'm confused -- why does it *have* to be VHS as the final output? Cannot someone bring a DVD player in and hook it up to where the VHS is hooked to?

DVD players are so cheap and portable that I just can't imagine not going this route. The quality (as long as you don't use transitions) will be superb at VCD (VCD stills are the same res as DVD) and it will be easy to handle (pausing, changing to certain shows, etc).

  5. pro show gold does a great job with svcd and vcd's...go with svcd's if you want the picture quality to be good on the tv...you can download a trial version that will work for a while.

Try searching in "GOOGLE" for ONDVD by Dazzle. It may be what you need.

    WDude.

I use DVD Movie Factory 2 for making slideshows. You can choose from DVD, VCD or SVCD. File formats supported include jpg, gif, tif, bmp, png and tga. I've also included background music using mp3's. Perfect results every time.

    Hope this helps

  9. Are any of these slide show programs capable of creating a slideshow of about 700 pictures? I'm working on a slide show in ArcSoft ShowBiz.....an excellent program for that purpose, but once I get to over 400 pictures, the program abends. I'm struggling to create a slideshow nearly twice the size of what it is allowing me. I'm curious if any of the other programs mentioned can help me accomplish this. But if anyone is interested in doing a slide show of 400 pictures or less, ArcSoft ShowBiz is the best program I have found so far!

  10. Does your slideshow have a *total*of 700 or can it be broken up into smaller shows of, say, 100 a piece?

I know Picture Show 2 can do the latter -- I've never tried a single show of more than 2 or 3 hundred. If I get the time I'll do one this afternoon with 700 in a single show and see what happens and post the results here.

  11. I'd be able to divide it up, only if I can create a DVD to play-through all the clips without going back to the title/menu page. I have a question about how this can be done posted on another forum, but haven't received any answers yet. I like ArcSoft ShowBiz because there is so much control with transitions, text, and adding and adjusting the start and stop times of music files added. If anyone knows how to combine different clips to play-through, I'd really appreciate the information! Thank you!!!

Take a look at Dazzle DVD Complete you can make still pictures or mpg, even import directly if so desires, into a very nice slide show with any background music you like then author the whole thing in menu form and burn to DVD or CD. I use it a lot to send slide shows to my Mom of the kiddies from my sony cybershot.

Arcsoft Showbiz seemed promising at first but if you use many pictures for a slideshow it pretty much sucks. I haven't found a way to get around its propensity to crashing, even with my 200 GB system with 512 MB of memory. XP, and an AMD 1800. I have yet to burn a successful DVD, or save to MPG2 .... even though it plays through fine on Preview. This is the version that came with my Pioneer A05 (Top of the Line ... the literature says) and an available patch for the full retail version won't install on this ver. I'm giving this software a new title .... "ArcSucks Showbiz", but that shouldn't come as a surprise ....... MyDVD also sucks, and oddly enough they are both made by Sonic. MyDVD does a horrible job at encoding (looks like large newspaper print) and for slide shows they limit you at 99 slides per chapter! My recommendation ... stay clear of anything made by Sonic! Don't learn the hard way as I did.

Also ....... Picture2TV does not record to DVD .... only CD-R or CD-RW. However, it does produce excellent results in the SVCD mode, and I have been able to nearly fill a 800 MB CD. Great program for the price.

  15. Ulead Picture show does a nice job on shows that large. I recomend it if all you want is to get them all one CD or DVD in a nice format. However, I have done a few slide shows for presentation at large gatherings and find that shows with that many slides take too long and people lose interest. You will never fit that many slides into a single song so . . . .divide them up into subsets and make several smaller shows. I use pinnacle studio DV and make very flashy shows (lots of fancy transitions and sound effects). I will record the whole collection back to my DV camera and hook it up to a projector. This method never fails and will run through without problems. Then I make VCDs and DVDs available for order to those that want them. You do need to make sure that whoever is getting the VCDs or DVDs can play them. I just ask them for their model of DVD and look it up here to see if it is likely to handle the disk.

  16. Ulead DVD PictureShow 2. Check it out in the tools section on this website.

Ulead Movie factory2 can also do it but doesn't have an Audio fade in/out option like Pictureshow2. Although for mixing several videos with slideshows and better menu control I use Movie Factory2. Still the Audio thing is a pain in the ass when the music abruptly stops at the last picture in the slideshow.
