  1. The movie is Iceage. I use DVD Decrypter to rip the entire DVD to the harddrive. I then check with Vobrater which IDs I should keep and with ones I shouldn't. Then I open vts_01_0.ifo to strip some audio (dub) and some subs. I strip vobID's, create new IFO files and so on.. I have followd a guide from Doom9.net After I'm done I make an image with Imgtools 0.90 and burn the image with DVD Decrypter.

The problem. The movie works fine on the DVD-RW but not on the DVD-R.
"The media!".. you think. But the DVD-R media works on all other *hrmm* that I've burnt. This has only occurd ones with a SouthPark collection and they too worked fine on the DVD-RW.
The things that it could be.

    5. God hates me..
Most of the options could be taken from the list when thinking that the image works on the DVD-RW, if not something that I do screws up a
    certain type of media.

DVD-RW is Ritek and the DVD-R is OPTODISCK001.

*takes out a fresh and warm DVD-R and puts it in the standalone DVD*
Yepp.. works fine. Even burnt in 2x. Why not my own backups God !!?

    Thanx for any response.

  2. I wish I could help you out on that one, but it is way (and I mean waaaaay) out of my league. But if I could answer your little poll, I'll go with #5. God hates you. I have to go with that so I know that I am not alone.

Here is a quick couple of questions. How big are the main movie files? Have you tried burning everything, except for the stuff you don't want? I wouldn't think you even need to use any other program to do that, unless the movie files are larger than 4500 MB. Just a thought. Although that seems to be the only thought I ever have.

  3. Hi!..
I'm about to try some different media, that a friend of mine is going to burn. Just to see if it's the media or my burner or some program on my 'puter thats behind it all. Or.. the image.
The files, that are the main movie, is the standard VOB size of 1Gb each.
Since it's only the main movie there is no need (in this case) to reencode
the movie. Just rip it down, create some new IFO-files so the movie starts right away.

The media I've tried so far are:
Manufacturer ID: RITEK000V11A (the working -RW media)
Manufacturer ID: OPTODISCK001 (nonworking -R media)

I've bought to other media today:
    Manufacturer ID: PRINCO
Manufacturer ID: RITEKG03 (-R media, same as the -RW above but the
    manufacturer id is different)

I'll be back with the result..

  4. Lurk00,

I have backed up several disks using this method. I rip everything to my hard drive using DVD Decrypter. Then using PowerDVD in file mode, I watch all of the VOB files and write down what VOB set is for what, including the main menu. I then figure out what it is that I don't want or need and burn everything else. I usually keep the menu that comes with the DVD and burn that as well. That way, I don't need to edit any IFO files and I have a working menu.

As for the menu, the disk defaults to my DVD players main screen (the one that says "Sony Video Disk Player" or something to that effect) if I select something that I don't have the IFO, BUP or VOB files.

This won't work, though, if the all the main movie VOB files add up to over 4500 MB in size.

Try to back up Ice Age that way and see if it works. It did for me with Van Wilder and Not Another Teen Movie.

  5. This is so f**kin' weak!

The image that I wrote about above. I sent it over to a friend
of mine. He got an identical DVD-R like me (Pioneer A05).
He burns the image on a Bulk media (Princo) and tries is out
on his standalone DVD-player. Works sweet.
He the sends me the media and a empty Bulk media aswell.
I put the burnt media (with my IceAge image on it) in my
    standalone player (Marantz 4100).
Nothing. The player makes that same noise when it seeks on
the media as it did with the other medias that didn't work.
Ok.. the media doesn't work on my player I think.
I then take the empty media, same as the one that didn't
moments ago work on my standalone player, and burns another
image on it. An image that I havn't made.
I put it into my standalone player and it works.
So, the media does work on my player but not the one with
IceAge on. I then make an image of the Bulk media with IceAge
and burn it on a -RW. That media (with the image that not seems
to work) works fiiine on the player.

Anyone.. have I missed anything or is this as insane as I see it ?

  6. If you do not need the menu of movie, you can go like this:
    - Use DVD Shrink to rip whole dvd or just movie only to HD.
    - Use DVD2One to make it fit to 1 dvdr with movie only Mode
    - Finally, use Nero Express of Nero to burn it.
    It'll work. Good luck.

i hate when things go wrong like that.
The only thing I would try is burning with RNM as VIDEO_TS AND AUDIO_TS folders.
Even rip the one which is on RW to HD and then burn on -R.
Should work with RNM or some versions of NERO.
All I've got in this world is my balls and my word.....

and I don't break them for no one!

  8. Sounds like a burning issue to me. Try the newest version of Nero or newest version of Record Now Max. The second program has the most compatability sucesses from what I hear. There are several articles at this forum on how to use both programs. Hope this helps!!!!!

  9. *edited post by lurk00*

Hmm.. I'm sitting here with the workin' -RW media that I mention above.
I have a friends Bachlorparty that I have edited and output as .avi from Premiere and then encoded it to mpeg2 with TMPGENC.
Then I used DVD Architect to make some menues and stuff and finally made it a .IMG file with IMGTools.
When I burn the image on the -RW the first copy doesn't work.
Same sound and error as with the media above. I tried to erase it and burn it several times but it won't work at all.
I then burn an other image, destination unknown ,and it works.
After that I erase the -RW once more and burn the bachlorimage..
    and then it works.
Could it be possible that I'm facing some kind of finalizing problem !???
..or it could be as simple as my standalone DVD player is to old and
    doesn't read right.

  10. To end this discussion, or more of a monolog, I have figured out following.

The problem that my standalone player don't play "homemade" DVD-Rs.
Actually it does.. it just don't play DVDs that's not full. If I burn for ex a
-RW with a full size image (4.6GB) the standalone player works fine.
If I on the other hand burn, for example, a project thats only 2GB in size
the standalone player don't recognize the format of the media.

If this wasn't enough the media that I used seems to be pretty crappy.
If anyone is thinking of buying SW TECH (prod.code:OPTODISCK001)
then I strongly recommend you to think again.

After I have burn a DVD-R I check that the standalone player recognize the media and that the movie plays. What I didn't check was further in into the movie. When I watched a DVD-R that I had made the movie got jerky and skipped some parts, about 3/4 into the movie. I then checked all the other copies and 5 out of 10 had this error. I burned the movie again and got the same problem. As fast as I changed the media the problem disappered and the movie played fine.

    Cheers!.. // lurk

I'm still "wet Behind the ears" when it comes to backing up dvd's (I JUST started this weekend) but I'll throw in my 2 cents worth.

I have the Pioneer 105 also AND I use Optodiscs with no troubles. The ONLY problems I have had is that my media only goes 1x writing speed .

I plan on getting some quality, at least 2x possibly 4x media real soon!

The only problem I have with playing the backups on my Apex is the Memorex -RW I test with doesn't like to load "right away". It may take up to a minute for the Apex to see the dvd.

The Optos I have been using are the ones with the Blue and White label. I can't use the plain gold topped ones as my Apex doesn't like them. It does like Ritek (I believe "Branded" Ritek's) so I may be going this route for my 2-4x media.

I have noticed that everybody/everyone that has probelms with media and or dvd drives and or stand alones, the problems are NOT the same across the board! Person "A" has the same setup as person "B" but A's media doesn't work in B's stand alone. B's media doesn't work in A's drive etc.... See what I mean! There are "basics" here that people can help others with BUT I think in the long run, we may be better off buying "Sampler" packs to decide which media works best AND where it works best.

    2 cents is used up!
