  1. Well, it appears these Philips DVD+R disks I got in exchange for those Crappy Verbatim DVD-R disks manufactured by Crappy Media Corporation, A.K.A "CMC" seem to also make the disks for Philips. The manufacturer Id also says CMC..although It is a bit different and the fact of the matter is that I've already burned 2 movies which gave me problems with the DVD-R....and burned them on the Philips DVD+R's and they play perfectly....but that's 2 outta 2 only..if ANY of these disks have a problem..they too will go back in a HEARTBEAT...and I'll get MAXELL DVD-R's.....

but hopefully these Philips CMC disks are much better then the last set of Verbatim DVD-R disks...man....basically 4 of the CMC 15 pack Verbatim disks had a sense error while another 7 or 8 in the 15 pack spindle burned with no errors but obviously had many errors and freezes during playback......i'm looking to be 75 out of 75 with these Philips..and if i'm 74 out of 75, i'll get some type of credit for the 1 disk that is bad...i'm not even chalkin' a penny up as a loss now....cost me too much time!

Take a guess who those Imation that Office depot sales are made by, and the Memerox too I see a pattern.

Verbatim's that are made by MCC say 2x on the package. So do the Imation.

The Verbatim's I saw at Office Depot didn't say 2x. Neither do the ones at Sam's Club, nor the Imation. At Best Buy, they had some of both that said 2x on the package.

Should of grabbed those TDK's at Target. $1.58 each!!!!! They have the 4x +R's too.

Hopefully CMC put a little quality in the +R discs, 'cause that'd just suck, and be enough for me to have to break something.

    Made by CMC

Made by MCC notice the 2x in the yellow circle

Your's didn't have the 2x on them did they?

  3. what's up buddy? SON OF A BITCH! THAT'S IT! AND I THOUGHT ABOUT THAT TOO! Here is the thing though..the Best Buy disks I purchased months earlier DID SAY 2X on the spindle....yep...but on the DISK THEMSELVES..they did NOT! The disks froM OFFICE DEPOT did NOT say 2x, but the SPINDLE AND THE DISK LOOKED EXACTLY IDENTICAL!

Even the media codes were the same...so that must be why each one of these fuckers had an error.....actually, about 15 of them play flawlessly and were burned @ 2x ...any hunches as to why those would of burned flawlessly? Also, tools such as DVDINFO say the disks can burn at a max of 2x anyway...but obviously they can't!

As far as the media id's go..i'm tellin' you....one of the disks I checkd had a different media id...i'm gonna find my post because I remember posting it...anyway, that obviously has little to do with the problem...but this must be what the problem is..the burn speed!

I also thought that 1x disks COULD NOT be burned at 2x...only 1x max..so there is also a conflict there. Weird that OFFICE DEPOT also had the DVD+R's @4x on sale..I just got there too late....another conflict is the fact that people think these DATA LIFE "PLUS" disks are all made by MCC....which is apparently not true at all...maybe SOME of them are....but not all..because damn near all of those Verbatim disks were CMC MAG....anyway, it worked out in the long run because I now have 3 spindles of PHILIPS disks which I am currently 4 for 4 on @2.4x ..so that's a relief...also, those disks were $10 more per spindle then the Verbatim's..and they bring TEN MORE disks....25...then the Verbatims...so it's a win/win situation for me..all I lost is time...but considering I got the buy one get one free...I ended up only losing out on about $30, while getting $135 worth of Philips media ...so I'm at a positive $100!

OH man...and I was under a false assumption that because the first disks I looked at had that MCC media ID...and burned perfectly...I figured they would all go just as smoothly as my other 30 Verbatim disks..but you are right..the one difference is that they don't say 2x on the packaging...one other thing to mention again though is that the first 2 spindles from Best Buy did say 2x on them...they also did say DATA LIFE "PLUS" and they were NOT MCC disks..they are all CMC disks...so something is really weird there.

The thing is though, CMC does not have a right to put 2x on the package.

The only DVD-R discs that can put 2x on the package are those certified by Pioneer to burn at 2x with the A03.

That's why Fuji's (Made by Taiyo Uden) don't say 2x. They are only certified for the A04, and A05. Same with Memerox, and Sony.

The old TDK didn't say 2x, but the newer ones do. Pioneer added TDK to the certified media with the A03 after firmware 1.65.

Here's the new TDK, 2x is also on the disc.

Here's the old TDK, 2x was not on the disc.

  5. Folks,

What about spindels? if it say 1x-4x does this means it is a good media? I am taling about Verbatim DataLife- B

  6. @disturbed, interesting info, and CMC may not have a right to put 2x on the spinde..but they definitely do. I've recently noticed that the disks which are VERBATIM -R at Best Buy now have a newer spindle and a newer look. They no longer say Data Life "PLUS" like they used to. At this point it's very odd...it's odd that the disks would read in certain tools as 2x disks..it's odd that the office depot as well as older Best Buy disks were both CMC..wtih the exception of a random MCC disk here and there..and it's odd that the older CMC disks which did have the 2x speed on the spindle label...burned flawlessly..but the newer one's do not.

The truth is that I experienced months ago problems with dvd+r Verbatim media and posted it then. Back in November to be exact....those were MCC disks and crappy as shit too...so all that Plus non Plus CMC...MCC stuff doesn't seem to mean a thing.....bottom line to this all? I'll never purchase another Verbatim disk again...it's just amazing how Verbatim operates...very shady to say the least....that's why i'm gonna just have to purcahse a large quantitiy of disks which are a known entity..such as the ACCU's..etc.

I think we should all BOYCOTT CMC MEDIA. There are a lot of people that gripe about Princo, Ritek, Lead Data, etc, but those issues are lame in comparisons to the horrid crap made by CMC. Before my VERBATIM experience last month, I had no idea discs could honestly get that shitty. I thought I'd seen it all when it came to bad media, but Verbatim certainly proved me wrong.

    A CMC DVD-R failed on 1x !!!!
1x for crying out loud !!!
Can they get any crappier ???

And no, not just one... try 10 out of a 15-pack.
I took them back, frisbies and all.
Demanded my money back, and I got it.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
