  1. I have a sony handy cam trv340. It came with Pixela. I tried to copy the tape to the hard drive and it stops after about 14 min., saying out of drive space. There is about 7gigs on this drive left. The copy is suposed to be in mpeg1, which a 45 min tape should be about 4gig . When I check the file in explorer the file is only 376,756kb.
Am I missing something or is there a place to adjust settings. The drive is ntfs, I'm using winxp pro 1800xp processer.
I tried a search using pixela, but didn't find what I'm looking for.
I'm not sure what else is needed in this post to help me out. All help is appreciated

I suggest you read the newbie guides and the capture articles. You put some serious handcuffs on using Pixela. There are some some much better capture programs for you and that "dream machine" of yours (read: TRV340)
    Hello.

  3. Thanks, I've been doing a lot reading and rereading as far as the handcuffs go, I just wanted to copy the video we shot which was about 45 min. as is. Quality isn't the issue yet. I wanted to free up the tape, I'm using as a practice tape, I don't want to have a lot of tapes all over with just junk on them. I was going to put it on a rewritable as practice, but as I said ,the capture stops after about 14 min. I wanted to get around that.
I know there is a lot of studying with this stuff, Thanks again.

Let me ad this.- As I was searching and reading I see firewire mentioned a lot. The camera came with a usb cable ,which Iam using. Would that cable cause the problem with the cut off?

You need to have your HARD DRIVE or the portion of it to which you capure REFORMATTED..

That is click on the hard drive you are going to capture with and look at its properties..LOOK AT THE CENTER of the properties window for the HARDDRIVE

whay does it say? FAT 32 or NTFS are the choices..
If you don't know what these terems mean..please do some reading about computers and come back.....

If it says FAT 32..thats your problem..and if you only have this one hard drive YOU NEED TO REFORMAT YOUR entire computer before you cn capture 45 minutes in one go

then and only then can you capture over 18MINUTES in one go
THE FILE SYSTEM of FAT 32 is limited to describing 2.0GIG of VIDEO per file..
It sound like this is your problem

a work around involves capturing segments and editing hem back together with an editing program
or buying a program that ignores the CAPTURE LIMIT by linking the 2.0gig files seamlesly to you

  5. The partition that I use is ntfs. I use this drive when I backup my store bought dvds with no problem.

MAYBE PIXLA CAN CAPTURE over 18mins in one event..but it looks like you've exhausted that possibilty, NO?
    I agree with TOMMYK
get a real capture appliction.....look at capture center
no, usb doesn't prevent anything like that...but its way less desirable to capture to
than FIREWIRE because of the way USB is constructed/connected

Maybe PIXELA is causing abnormal limit but as I don't know the software just frustrated users of it!

  7. Ok, I'm looking into getting the fire wire card and cable, and the better software. Thanks. You know free is not always free, just because it came with the hardware. I'm learning.

If you got about 14 minutes of video then that would be about 4gb worth. And you only got 7gb. You are pushing your hard drive too much. You should not fill it up that much or your asking for problems

Pixela is not a good program to use for DV. It's ok for still photos but thats about it. I would get a firewire card bundle (with software and cable) to tart off with. This si what I did and got Ulead Videostudio 5 with it. While this is not the latest and greatest software on the market there is support for burning to DVD (haven't tried it yet though). This program has worked pretty well for me so far down this often rocky trail of video production. BTW, i have a dcrtrv340 as well.

    I think I'm having a similar issue.

I've got a Sony Vaio P4 2.53Ghz, 120G HD, 512 RAM. I'm using DV Gate (bundled software from Sony?) to capture from my Sony DCR-TRV30 via FireWire then converting to MPEG1 with TMPGEnc.

I can only capture 2GIG at a time. So during playback in my DVD player there is about 10-15 seconds of pause after each 10 minute segment of video before the next segment begins playing.

I've only had this computer for about a month. You're not saying that I would need to reformat before I could record more than 2 Gig segments are you? If not then what is the solution to my problem?

    Thank you

  11. As an after thought ... I should have given more specs. I have asus a7v333 mother board, 1 gig 2700 ddr mem, 100 gig hd ( partitioned into smaller units, thats why 7 gig left on that drive).
I was looking through the manual for the the asus and it says it has a header for 1394. Does this mean I just have to get a cable, or ribbon with a jack at the end to attach the fire wire cable from the camera to?
