  1. I downloaded a PAL avi (704x576) and was able to watch it on my PC using WIndows Media Player 8. I tried to convert it to NTSC mpg with TMPGEnc so I can make a vcd and watch on tv using the dvd player. When it converts, the monitor screen in TMPGEnc shows the movie like macrovision was on or like an impressionist painting. The result mpg also plays like macrovision was on. After a few trys, I gave up. I then used Nero to make a vcd straight from the PAL avi file. It worked and gave me a vcd. When I play it, however, everything is upside down, though very clean and no macrovision like distortion. Any idea what happened and how to solve this problem? All suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

  2. Well, Nero has some serious issues when it comes to converting. One of these issues is the upside-down thing. It's all over google if you do a searhc for "VCD upside down"... Everybody seems to have the same complaint about Nero. LOL

You were on the right track with TMPGEnc, but apparently you just had some bad settings. (Don't get discouraged... TMPGEnc isn't exactly the easiest program in the world to figure out... EVen the pros had to learn by trial and error.)

Download the TMPGEnc templates from http://www.dvdhelp.us and stick with them. It will take all of the guesswork out of what can be a rather confusing program. Just load the DVDHelp.us templates, check the aspect ratio, and encode.

  4. Lisa, I tried to dl the templates from dvdhelp.us but the link apparently is bad. When I agreed to the terms, it just displayed a bunch of unreadable characters on the window. Do you or anyone know where else can I dl those templates? Thanks.

    Cool
