Thanks to this board, I got my first problem with the aspi driver figured out, but I have another problem. When I start Smartripper, it does everything but it gets to a point where it says, "some files are still locked...try to unlock with a player". What does this mean and how can I fix it. Again, thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

  2. Hey,

Try playing the DVD in a Windows DVD player (i.e. PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.) and then try to use SmartRipper.

Me, I gave up on SmartRipper a while back and just got DVDDecrypter, which, IMO is a much better piece of software.

Then again, maybe it's just me.

    Hope this solves your problems.

Yeah I agree start the DVD in PowerDVD or WinDVD then while it's playing run Smartripper. If that fails then try using DVDDecrypter, I have both rippers however I prefer SmartRipper.

if it still getting that message, that means

u don't have the aspi layer installed correctly

adaptec has one, but i think u have to do a trick with the older version (force aspi?) because the newer one (4.7?) doesn't install correctly

here's an easier way with nero aspi layer

Where can I get aspi32 drivers for Windows?
Nero's ASPI driver from Ahead Software.

For Windows NT4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP:
Download ftp://ftp6.nero.com/wnaspi32.dll. Copy wnaspi32.dll to the %windir%\System32 folder or to your application directory (no need for reboot).

    For Windows 95/98/ME:
Download ftp://ftp6.nero.com/NeroASPIen.exe and read the readme.txt file.

if it ask u to overwright the file, click yes

More info can be found on Nero's download page.
Bart says: "This aspi manager from Nero is great, I can really recommend it"...

I used to mess around with that when using Smartripper. I switched to DVD Decrypter and that was the end of that. I highly recommend DVD Decrypter over Smartripper.

Smartripper is okay, but DVD Decrypter is just a lot easier for me to use.

    not really

smartripper is easier to understand and manipulate

as it rip the dvd the way the dvd was written

plus u don't get them errors a lot of people reported on this forum

how many times have u seen on his forum

about people getting errors and people telling them to use smartripper

    and that fix the problem

plus smartripper hasn't been updated in over 18 months (there is no need to)

I guess it never occured to me that there was a problems with DVD Decrypter. I've backed up over 150 DVDs in the last 2 months since I bought my burner and have only had one problem with errors. I cleaned the original DVD and went on about my merry way. So, 1 in 150 isn't bad. Especially when you consider it wasn't the software but the DVD anyway.

  8. I use SmartRipper mostly but only because that's what I started out with. So far I have ripped at least 350 DVD's with zero failures.
