  1. I bought the 105 a few days ago. have flashed to hacked firmware for region free/2x with 1x media and 12x rip. I have only tried writing at 2x once and produced a coaster. The problems I'm mainly concerned with is a disc takes about 1 min 20 secs to start writing, and only wants to rip at 2x. I thought my old drive was slow ( panasonic dvdram drive ), that takes about 15 seconds to start writing and usually rips at 4x ish.

Is my 105 normal or faulty?

    cheers

  2. hard to help, when we dont know what your rig is like. I have a 1.2 gig emachine and the 105 w1.3 hacked firmware running XP and using dvddecrypter and nero, it works great at 1x or 2x. Did you try to rip at 1X and did it work.

    Do you have DMA enabled?

Hmmm...sounds like your firmware upgrade didn't work. I have a Pioneer A05 with the official firmware (1.30) and I have no problems ripping a non protected disc at 5 - 8 X. Burns on 2X branded material (REAL branded Maxells, Verbatims) are perfect. I'd erase the firmware and reload it...

  4. ok, after more testing, this is what I've found; It rips original dvd's at approx 7x - 8x, but only rips backups at about 2x. my old ram drive rips between 2x - 5x with all dvd's.

The main question I have though is about initialising/lead in times. As I said earlier this is takeing well over a minute. This is with dvd decrypter and with prassi. It just sits there for what seems like an age before it starts writing. It was the same before I flashed the firmware.

Can someone with a 105 please check and see how long it takes to start writing please?

    thanks in advance

  5. Just checked, about 35 seconds with prassi. I have the 1.33 hacked unlocked ripping speeds and 2x Ritek G03 media. Probably the same with dvddecryptor, can't remember exactly and only had one thing to burn.

  6. I have the 105. With dvddecrypter it feels like about 30 seconds. With nero about 45 seconds.

Think it might be time for ADD medication :P :P
