  3. I also have this problem and have spent a lot of time (in vain) trying to find a solution. The problem seems worse in captured analog material as opposed to digital, such as a digital camcorder. A few days ago I posted a message remarking about how common this problem was and proposing a couple of software ideas about how an enterprising code writer could fix it. One idea was to have the audio and video streams occasionally "touch bases" with one another, compare notes, and make needed adjustments. Another solution could be to have user-controlled code in which the user would enter a correction factor (for example +0.63 sec) which would be incorporated by the software when the new mpeg file was written. Two correction factors, near file beginning and file end, may be needed because this problem is often progressive (gets worse towards the end of the file). I actually remember seeing the latter in real software somewhere and have been beating my head trying to remember where. I was told here in the Forum that these solutions were not really practical as the video and audio datastreams travel in different worlds. I still think it should be feasible. In the old days, I could have written much of it in Applesoft BASIC using PEEK and POKE commands. (although the code would probably take a week to process a small MPEG file). I guess this is a very verbose reply saying that if misery love company, then you should not be lonely.

  4. Wee Haggis: I tried the VDUB solution suggested above but VDUB refuses to load my level 2 MPG file (MPEG Import Filterack sychronization error). I suspect that I should understand why but I'm pretty new at all of this.

  5. Do you have the correct version of Virtualdub that accepts MPEG 2?
If not, go here and scroll down till you find the correct version.

  6. Wee Haggis: Thank you for putting me onto virtualdubmpg2. It seems to be a modified version being made available by Sourceforge. The files are in RAR format so users will have to have that unpacker or Windows will profess complete ignorance.
