What could be the problem?
Here is the method:
1. VCD -> toast disk image
2. toast image -> .bin (rename)
3. .bin -> mpeg1s (using vcdtoolsX)
4. mpgs -> larger mpg (using mpgtxwrap, tried keep headers off and on)
5. mpg -> m1v (bbDemux without saving audio)
6. mpg -> mp2 @ 48kHz (ffmpegX with mp2 preset)
7. m1v, mp2 -> DVDSP (no error - ie. proper aspect ratio, framerate, bitrate, audio frequency etc.)
8. DVDSP -> VIDEO_TS - (ERROR doesn't build!! )
I get the problem at step 8 with an error saying "Bad Encoded Video Stream-Error Code -32017"
I suspect the problem is really in step 4 because I dont have the problem if I dont join the mpgs.
I also suspect step 4 because in step 5 bbDemux says their are bitstream problems
Is it possible that my Joined mpegs have some extra info?
Why am I joining the mpegs? Well there are two many small ones (I would have over 99 for one DVD which I believe is too many and too much work too.)
Any help would be appreciated

Sounds like your not converting the movie file to mpeg2!!! DVD is mpeg 2 most likely why its not recognizing
do what you did, but before remux, convert mpeg1 to mpeg2.
you can also follow my guide once you get the mpeg1 to mpeg2 if you like. Very easy, doenst require any dvd apps, just terminal

I'm hoping to keep them as mpeg1 and I've had good success with this before. (I believe mpeg1 is also in the DVD standard, but I'm not sure)
Do you have a fast and easy way to convert mpeg 1 to mpeg 2?
(without re-encoding)? -

Yes, legal DVD resolutions are PAL/NTSC 720x576/480, 704x576/480, 352x576/480 for MPEG2 and 352x288/240 for MPEG1 -
yes, so does anyone have an idea as to whats wrong with the joined mpeg1s?

note, this is with each mpg named as vcd1.... -
The reason I want to join them, is because:
- I am going to author with multi-level menus, markers etc in DVDSP
- and I think I'm going to put about 150 on on DVD. (these vcds have about 25 2.5min mpgs on them, and I figure I can 6 vcds into one dvd)
Galactica, I do appreciate that your method and tutorials are cool, and the terminal way is pretty slick. and I appreciate your advice. -
I don't know why you are getting that error. Lucky for you is, I got the same error recently. How did I fix it? Easy, I took the bad mpeg-1 file, and moved it to a pc. Used TMPGENC with the preset for NTSC Video-CD, took about an hour to re-encode. Then i redid the steps, i used MPEGPOWERTOOL to demux and re-encode the mp2, and then imported into DVDSP. Worked fine
DVDSP does work with MPEG-1 Files -
Well I suppose I can try it in Virtual PC..
The idea doesn't seem too appealing though.
Any more thoughts any one? -
You can try Quicktime Pro. Load the video in QTPro and then do File | Export as Toast Video CD. See if that works
