am putting stuff onto DVD, have tried SVCD to DVD which works well, but i noticed an option in TMPEGenc that was a "low resoltion" DVD, the res was lower than SVCD, but i wondered if anyone could throw any light on any advantage or disadvantage of this format over SVCD, or more importantly, would really notice any difference ??
many thanx

1/2D resolution 352 x 576/480 is DVD compatible, SVCD resolution 480 x 576/480 is NOT. While you can burn SVCD resolution material onto a DVD it's not guaranteed to play on all players.

Hi,
It depends on the quality of the source that you want to put on a DVD
if you want to know whats the best resolution , but if it's SVCD resolution that you want to put on a DVD it's best to go for 352x576 PAL or 352x480
for NTSC because horizontal res. of 480 svcd to 352 (1/2 DVD) gives better results in the conversion than 480 svcd to 720 (full DVD)
352x576/480 has also the advantage that the bitrate can be reduced without loss of quality other than full DVD (who needs a higher bitrate to reduce the visual artifacts) and its a very good resolution to view on your tv once converted and played in your standalone DVD-player
You also can use a audioconverter (like Besweet etc.) to convert the MP2 audiostream to AC3 stream for the better compression and is more compatibel to DVD-players (use a 192 bitrate for stereo audio).

Don't forget VCD resolutions. They are also compatible with DVD. I don't prefer them, simply because the resolution is too low, but it is an option.
