question about dvd-r player

Hello there,
I am new to owning a DVD-R and I am having a problem and I wondered if someone may help me?
I purchased a Cendyne/Pioneer 4x DVD-R/DVD-RW a105.
I installed it and started using it and had major problems with my pc, so I had to format my hard drive and install it again and everything seems ot be ok now - BUT - - .
The first time I installed the recorder I had a couple of DVD's that someone sent me that are 2 hours long and they played fine.
Now when I try to play these DVD's, they only play to about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Now if I put in a store bought DVD, it will play the full thing.
So, could someone tell me why the player will not play the whole DVD of the ones that were sent to me??
I am running Windows 2000 professional, with 2 gig cpu and 256 ram and playing the DVD with WinDVD 4.0.

Any help would be appreciated.

You're trying to play the dvd's on your PC with your pioneer DVD-R/RW?
I don't quite get what you mean...

Yes, exactly. I'm trying to play them on my pc. Like I said, at first I could play them all the way through, but after installing it again, the DVD's will only play to about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Any ideas?

Sounds weird...
These are the things you can try:
First make sure your installation is ok, chipset drivers and so on.
Try another software DVD player and see if it works better.
Try those dvd's in another player, either a DVD-ROM or an ordinary DVD Player.
You might need a firmware upgrade for your DVD-R/RW for those discs to work 100%.
Put your DVD-R/RW in another computer and see if it works there.

If all that fails, return your DVD-R/RW and get a new one.
