Has anyone tried the new external real time mpeg capture device from Canopus? The device is the MPEGPro EMR and is USB 1.1 or 2.0. The specs look good, but I was wondering how good are the actual captured video's? The link for it is listed below for anyone interested.

Just an update on the Canopus Mpegpro EMR. I contacted Canopus and they said "The Mpegpro EMR" isn't available in the U.S. yet". They are expecting their first shipment around mid June. Let's hope this capture device is as good as the specs seem to make it out to be!

I wouldn't be too surprised if it is. Canopus makes very good stuff, even if the editing apps have been non-standard with klunky GUIs in the past.

Seems that this product is an answer/competitor to the recently released ADSTech Instant DVD USB 2.0. From reading the specs, they sound like they perform essentially the same tasks and have similar settings and both using USB 2.0, with baackward compatibility to USB 1.1 (Note: if you dont have USB 2.0 connection, your max bitrate is about 5Mbps). The Instant DVD costs anywhere from $140-$199 on-line. While the Canopus has a suggested retail of $500.

Should be interesting to see what kinda job the Canopus does compared to the Instant DVD 2.0.
