  1. When I was up at school I was backing my DVDs and my friends DVD's up like crazy(what was I gonna do, learn?). Anyway I used the following process the entire semester...

Rip files to HD using DVD Decrypter >> Use DVD2One or DVDShrink >> Burn using nero

Only thing is I come home and try to sit down and watch a movie on our DVD player and none of them work .. they worked on PS2's, Xbox's, and my friends DVD player but not mine.

Another thing to note is that when I first got DVD Burner I used DVDXCopy and the movies would play with no problems. However when I remove menus using DVD2one or I just reencode using DVDShrink it does not play.

Is there another process I could try to get my movies to play on my DVD Player?

  3. I have a similar problem playing DVD+R on two Toshiba DVD players. Why were you afraid to ask if the standalone was a Toshiba? Tried burning with different compilations of Nero, but nothing has worked. Maybe you could shed some light on Toshiba players? Here is my original thread:

I'd really like to know why my DVD+R works on other players, but not Toshiba. Any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

    sorry, didn't mean to be a wisea$$ -

turns out there is a problem with dvdxcopy and the way it authors dvds when recompressing dvd9 to dvd5. because of some "corrupt reference to non-existent VOBs", the resultant dvd burned, will load but not play (or just play for a sec then freeze) on certain dvd standalones, in particular Toshiba.

  5. I recompressed my DVD9 to DVD5 using DVD Shrink 1.03. Toshiba's tend to be very stingy on what they accept in my opinion, and I suppose
the same kind of "corrupt reference" problem could be happening to my discs too. I'm going to do some test burns with other authoring and burning programs and see what I come up with. Thanks for the response.

  6. Turns out the problem I had was with Nero. Burned an image file with DVD Decrypter and it worked perfectly (almost) until I ran into a new problem:

Unlike other DVD players I've tested, Toshiba forces disc to play VOBid's that I didn't want and that I thought I had fixed in IfoEdit. This happens in my older model, and not the newer TV/VCR/DVD combo.

    Hello

I can't comment on the Toshiba DVD player thing but I will say this ...

I have used DVD2ONE many times (almost always in FULL-DISK backup mode) and have never had a problem as long as I created an image first (using the "classic" version of ImgTools) and then burned that image with DVD Decrypter.

There is a guide as to how to do this on the doom9 website.

The very first time I used DVD2ONE I tried NERO and sure enough it didn't work on both of my DVD players (though it did work on one of them) but guess what? ... the other method detailed above makes a DVD-R disc that does play in both of the DVD players!

    P.S.
With all the problems other people have had with NERO (including my own experiences) I have come to the conclusion that it is CRAP for DVD creation. However I do still use it to burn the odd VCD/SVCD files I make and to copy a CD to a CD-R etc.

i think i've seen the same behavior with the software player, WinDVD. if i strip the features from a DVD9 and keep just the menu and movie (to retain the movies original video quality), i find that if any VOBs are missing, WinDVD will not play it, even if the IFOs first play value was edited to jump directly to the root menu. yet, it'll play fine using ifoedits dvd player and on my JVC standalone.

for greater compatibility among standalones, you can substitute small VOB files (about 10k) for the missing ones and use WinDVD to test it. if it plays in WinDVD, it'll probably play on the more finicky standalones.
