Hey Floopy, I'm thinking of purchasing NeoDVD Plus. Can you tell me if it's worth it or is it a waste of money
I too just want to back up my VHS collection and need to get about 2 hours on 1 DVD-R.
Thanks, Mark -
the idea is great but in practice the sound is crap if i can sort the sound ill be happy

neoDVD Plus is a great capturing/authoring program. I like it best for making DVD with video <= 92mins. At best quality, you can only fit about 92mins (AC3 audio). The next quality mode ("better") give you 2x92mins = about 3 hours of video. I don't think the video quality is good in this mode. I never had issue with the AC3 audio encoded by neoDVD Plus.
You can always buy and try, if not happy return for full refund.ktnwin - PATIENCE -
If the sound is distorted then it's your sound card thats the problem IMO. I have captured over 50 movies using NeoDVD from VHS and the audio is great. There is an option in the program to compress the audio FYI.

I have some homemade DVDS I made with a Philips 985 DVD recorder. Can I use neoDVD to make a perfect digital copy of those discs?

I would suggest that you take a close look at ULead Video Studio 7. I have used NeoDVD also, and I find that Video Studio 7 blows Neo out of the water. It even captures DVD-RAM (VRO) from the new Digital Cam corders by Hitachi and Panasonic. I do recommend that you use a dedicated Analog to mpeg encoder like ADS Pyro firewire or Canopus instead of the usual capture cards. It yields far better quality mpeg.
I hope this helps!Jim Petrick -

Why don;t yoou just play the disk yoou burned in the Phillips on a regular player and re-record it on the Phillips. Makes a perfect 1:1 copy of the original one you did. I do that all the time.[/quote]No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
Thanks for your advice. But why would I use a dedicated analog since I am trying to copy a DVD?

Because your original post said you wanted to capture VHS to DVD. VHS is analog and DVD is digital so you need a capture device that captures analog which is what a capture card does. Once it has the analog captured (usually in .avi format) you have to use an encoder to convert the .avi to .mpeg and then author and burn a DVD. The Pyro or Canopus will encode your .avi VHS as it captures it and writes it to your drive as .mpeg. It specializes in encoding to digital .meg which does a better job of capturing video than common capture cards that only capture in .avi only and then must be encoded to mpeg..

u copy your home made dvd movie with neo dvd plus(+ reads vob files). neodvd isn't the program for capturing though as the a/v sync is a little off
