I use DVD Movie Factory all the time to author my DVD's. The MPEGS are made from Vegas video or via TMPG without trouble usually.

Yesterday, I created three MPEGs but in Vegas and slid the custom quality slider all the way to the top. When I went to author the DVD with DVDMF II it got all the way to the point of trying to create the DVD, said

CONVERTING VIDEO and hung at 100% CPU. It has never done that before.

I rebuilt the mpegs (I have the source AVI) and made them the typical 6000 kbs CBR and tried again. Worked fine.

Now I would say it was because the others are CBR but I have created those with Vegas, 6000 KBS average, with the slider for quality at about 20 (defaults to 15, scale is 1 to 31 ...Huh)

Anyone else encounter DVD MF II hangs ?

  2. arcorob,

I use Studio 8 to make my MPEG-2 files with the highest VBR setting (8k) and use them in DMF2 with no problem. No hangs on my setup.
Hum, I have no idea what your problem is, maybe someone else can help.

Its a mystery. This is the first and only time I have ever had an issue. I think that setting Vegas Mpeg for quality = 31 (the highest) may knock it out of compliance however, they play with power dvd...Hmmm

Time to use a DVD authoring app that does'nt Rencode. Try DVDlab or DVDworkshop. I use Premiere 6.5 with the Mainconcept encoder (same as Vegas) with the quality slider all the way up to 50 and CBR 8000 kbps. It never rencoded in DVDworkshop. DVDlab does'nt have an encoder so it can't rencode.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

  6. Actually, Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 and Ulead DVD Workshop have very similar engines and neither will re-encode if you set the parameters correctly.

Of course, I always recommend that people begin with COMPLIANT files in the first place.
