    Hi,

    I have a newbie question

I have a DVD that has a movie plus other stuff ( text files, mp3's, programs ect) on it. I would like to burn just the movie. Yet everytime I try using SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter it rips the entire DVD. Can someone please tell me how to rip JUST the movie.

Change DVD Decrypter to Rip in IFO mode (instead of FILE or ISO).

That will then allow you to change the title or even use the tab presented to choose the stream(s) and whether you want them demultiplexed as well.

    Simply marvellous, that!
The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.

    Hi there,

Well that worked. It copied the movie files just fine. But I must be doing something wrong still. Because when I burned the DVD with Nero it wouldn't work in my DVD player.

Using DVD Decrypter it made these files

    VTS_01 - Stream Information.txt
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB

I took these files and used Nero to burn them to a DVD Setting it as a DVD ROM (ISO) ISO Level 1

    Am I missing a file?

Do I need some sort of autorun?

Do I have to use something besides Nero?

Yes, you do need to do something else.

The IFO it creates is actually the original IFO from the DVD (I believe), so it is not relevant to the VOB files it has created for you. You will also be missing the root files (ie. VIDEO_VTS.IFO, etc).

So what you need to do before burning, is use something like IFOedit (free - see tools section) to create them for you.

    So ...
    - move your VOBs to a separate folder (or remove the other crap - either way)
    - start IFOedit
    - Use the "Create IFOs" button down the bottom
    - fill in screen and OK
    - wait a few minutes
    - test on HD before burning
    - burn, baby, burn
The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.

  5. I know that you are a newbie and this may sound a little harsh, but the question that you are asking has many guides dedicated to the ripping of a DVD.

Now for the helpful advice. Use dvd shrink.
