I'm looking to hear what media people use on their A05's as well as what software they are using to burn with it.

I've got about 200 DVDs to burn (with my own video - for use in set-top DVD player) and I need a very compatible media to make my burns on. I REALLY need input here folks, so I appreciate any responses.

    Regards,

    Savant

I can't speak for longevity of the discs since I've only been burning DVDs for a couple months, but my Pioneer 105 has no problem burning bulk Optodiscs or Princos. I've also burned a 15 pack of 2x Verbatums with no problem, but they're a bit expensive for my tastes. I use the hacked v1.3 firmware to burn the bulk 1x's at 2x. I use Nero in DVD-Video mode most of the time, I've had the best luck with that.

  3. Ritek G03 1x, the firmware hack enables a stable 2x burn

i have burned around 300 Riteks at 2x and no problems

this is an official chart from the pioneer site which shows (tested) 1x media burned at 2x...this doesnt mean those not listed wont burn stable at 2x, its just havent been tested but pionneer says the chart will be updated when more testing has been done

Lots of people have issue with Princo, some have not. But there are LOTS of people who do. Someone has problems with just about every disk, but for a cheap 1x disk (2x if your willing to use a hacked firmware) I suggest starting with Ritek G03, then experiment in small numbers until you decide what does and doesn't work.

For high quality disk try Verbatims or Apples. Apples are really Maxells so if you find a good deal on those it might be worth a shot. But the BRANDED (not unbranded) Apple and Maxell disk are the true sure bets if you want to know for sure they are good.

  5. Hi,

I used 1x Princo's. They Burned just fine at 2x for me. Then is used some Datawrite 2x (TDK) which are perfect quality, but pretty expensive here in Holland. Now i just use Princo 4x. Burned about 200 of them no problems yet.

My 105 loves Apples, Princos, Optodiscs, Maxells, and Pioneers. Almost never a bad burn. If this thing was alive, I'd reward it with treats - sort of like my dog.

Only complaint is my Princos give a bad burn about twice per 100-spindle, but two discs isn't too bad. They are cheap discs, but can still perform... unlike the losers in my next paragraph...

But it spit up 2 Riteks and 3 LeadDatas yesterday, but I'm not really surprised - it's the media's fault. Rather than continuing to let these few discs I have left waste my time, I've now decided to round up the 20 or so Riteks, Accus and LeadDatas I have and throw them away (or use as free skeet). Just a great big waste of my time to burn bad discs.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
