Ok, I have made my backups in the past using DVDDecrypter and InstantCopy. I have come to hear about a more lengthy process using IdoEdit, VOBrator, TMPG, and Instant CD/DVD. Now my question is, what is the real advantage to using the second method. It is a lot lot harder and I don't see it producing a much better backup. Am I wrong in this and should I try to sink it all in and learn that method, or just stick with DVDDecrypter/InstantCopy?

I would like like to know the answer to this one myself. I think it's more about process than results. You may be able to show a marginally superior image in a beautifully photographed and well lighted movie, but there's not many of those, these days. Most are like Ocean's Eleven, one of the worst I've ever seen. VHS is all you need. Sorry for the rant, but I've wanted to get that off my chest for a while. I'll go sit quietly in the corner, now.

wELL I tired of wasting time and space on stuff
i never use anyway,i rip using dvd-decriptor, then
i run thru ifoedit to create never video ifo's then
i burn with instant copy to an image so i can
see if the sizing is off or not, then burn it with
IC7, now the disc just plays w/o no menu's... -
If you want to move into better quality backups without making your head explode, check out the combination of DoItFast4U, DoCCE4U and ReAuthorist. These three, with CCE will back up MOST DVDs using CCE on the entire movie. There is a learning curve but on longer movies and movies with lots of action, this combination is tough to beat.
You can find out more over on the Doom9 forums. They have a dedicated forum for all 3 of these. I'm surprised it hasn't caught on moreso than it has. -

I agree I use IC7 on mid-size projects for the quickies and the DoitFast4u/DoCCE4U/Scenarist method on the others. A great combo set of tools for all DVD needs.
