  1. I've followed the recommended instructions "to the letter" in the "Convert" section. I used virtual dub to convert audio, then TMPGenc to convert the video and add the converted audio. Then I used DVD Movie factory to burn to DVD. The final result is a DVD that has video sputtering and lockups. I have tried this at least 10 times with different DIVX files and the result is always screwed up.
Am I doing something wrong? Would anyone like to buy cheap DVD coffee coasters?

Hav you EVER played a burnt DVD succesfully on your DVD player, supplied by someone else. Stuttering, pausing and lock up is most commonly caused by your DVD player having difficulty reading the media and nothing to do with the conversion or authoring process.

I suggest you take on of your coasters and play it on your PC, using the DVD burner drive as the source. If this plays fine, then the problem is compatibility between your DVD player and your media. A different brand media might help.

  3. I have burned plenty of home DV to DVD with perfect results. I have taken standard AVI files and turned them into DVD's with perfect result. It is the DIVX to DVD that I am having problems with.

I have tried TDK, Maxell, Fuji, and various off brands too. They all seem to work equally well or poorly depending on the original source.

    Any other ideas?

What is a 'standard' avi file.

You don't say how well or otherwise these divx conversions play on your PC. I convert divx to DVD regularly using pretty much the method you describe and have no probelms. Perhaps a little more detail on your preocess and where it goes wrong would help us diagnose the problem.

For instance, when TmpGenc has finished encoding, does the resulting mpeg play smoothly on your PC in WMP and/or a PC DVD player software. If so, does DVD MF give a smooth playback in its preview. Can DVD MF create a title set on HD (you know, VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders with the vob and ifo files) and if so, play them in PowerDVD or WindDVD to check them. Also as I said in my previous post, see how well the burnt discs play in your PC DVD drive.

I know all this takes time but in order to solve the problem we need to find out where in the process the error occurs.

  6. Simple answer: DONT USE MOVIE FACTORY. Sorry to tell ya but you wont get a good DVD outa MF or MF2. I have converted over 50 DIVX and XVID's to DVD, i use TmpGenc to encode the avi direct to MPEG2 as long as the audio is 48hz u wont have a problem, then use SPRUCE-UP to compile the DVD and finally RecordNow Max 4.5 to burn.

    Hope that helps

drguitar1000 IS using TmpGenc for producing the mpeg. DVD MF is only used for authoring, though I too would have suggested using it to produce a title set and checking it out before burning. I use Nero for burning DVD's. It works fine for me though some people have reported problems.
