I need to buy a new DVD Rom drive, mainly for ripping, and was thinking of getting the Liteon drive, sold in PC World for £30. Is This drive any good? Can the firmware be patched to make it multiregeon. Do you guys recommend other drives instead?
cheers

You can see the user reviews for that item at newegg.com. I just ordered the combo drive but there are no user reviews for that.

I've heard lots of praise for the LiteOn drives, I do not know if they are rebadged or their own product. I have a Sony DVD-ROM which works fantastic.

Lite-on and Pioneer are the best drives for dvd ripping imo...
Here is an interesting comparison.
You can check http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_all.php for RPC-1 hacks (multi region) for the dvd-rom readers.
