Hi im a window's user and I want to get a IPOD and would like to know if any one has used XPLAY or EPHPOD software that let's you run a MAC IPOD on Windows. The reason I want the MAC IPOD is that the window's version does not support Audio Book's And that's some thing I really would love to have on my IPOD. Also I'm thinking of getting a MAC later and would also like to use it on my MAC when I get one. It just seem's smarter to buy one IPOD that work's on both MAC and Windows. Thank's Sorry for the off topic but I really do not know that much about MAC's

You are in luck. The new iPods work in Windows and on a Mac, so you should not have a problem. In fact, you don't need a Firewire port on a PC, because the new iPod supports USB2.

Actually...You have to buy a Windows or a Mac version. I believe the only difference though is the format of the harddrive and wether it has USB 2.0 or Firewire. So if you got the Mac one and reformatted the drive as NTFS you could use it with your PC (with a firewire card) and then when you get your MAc format it back to HFS+.

Hi I know there a Windows version of the IPOD but the windows version does not support Audio book or called Book's on tape's back in the old day's. But I know the MAC IPOD's do support audio BOOK's that why I want the mac version also I can use it on windows and on MAC if I get a PC IPOD I can only use it on windows and have to buy a new IPOD all over again. The main reason I want the mac IPOD is AUDIO BOOK's and to have a IPOD to work on both MAC and PC.

Jeffersonian: the new iPods (released two weeks ago) are mac and windows compatible. You no longer have to buy a mac ipod or a windows ipod. The iPod is both mac and windows compatible out of the box. No reformatting of hard drives is necessary. Also, if you're a windows user you don't necessarily need a firewire card since the new ipods are firewire and USB 1 and 2 compatible. As for the audio books issue, apple says that it works only on macs with itunes and since I'm not a PC user I haven't used Xplay or EPHPOD.

My mistake on the Mac/PC thing. So, spiderman, it looks like you will have to have a Mac with iTunes to use the audio book features. Just another reason to switch.

Yeah so anyway...looks like one more reason to switch to me...I think Apple is doing a good job on balancing product availability for PC users whil still keeping the incentive to switch. After all why should someone switch when they can have it all on their PC? -
Actually, all new ipods are shipped HFS+ formatted. The first time you try to sync one on a windows maching (using the apple-supplied MusicMatch) you are supposed to be prompted to reformat the drive as FAT32. Then, of course you cannot use it on a mac without reformatting again.
So the answer is that you buy the same ipod for mac or windows, but in order to actually use it on both machines without reformatting, you will have to use software that knows how to talk to a mac-formatted ipod, such as XPlay. -
Thank's ever one for posting!! I really with MAC went the way XPLAY does it with software that let's MAC format talk to window's. I would rather have the format in MAC with XPLAY. I do not want to format my ipod when I get it.
