  1. Hey,

I've got a Widescreen TV and a region free dvd player. I recently got my first r2 disc. It plays fine, picture and sound, but the disc says its anamorphic, but it doesnt work. I have the player set for 16x9. whats the deal?

  3. there is an issue with some NTSC multi-region DVD players that, when playing back anamorphic PAL widescreen discs (while the player is set to 4:3), that they don't add the borders, and as a result the picture looks stretched on a 4:3 TV.

but if you're watching on a widescreen TV and have your player set to widescreen, i don't see why there'd be a problem.

what's actually wrong with the picture you're seeing? are you sure the disc is actually anamorphic? try another anamorphic disc and see..

  4. Im playing them on a widescreen tv, but even when i toggle between wide and 4x3 it the picture still seems off. I got a film thats 185 and played it, and theres no black bar at the top, but there is a very thin one at the bottom. Very strange.

  5. so.. what's the problem?

a widescreen film will fill the whole screen on a widescreen TV set. a small black bar at the top or bottom is normal for a disc with a movie presented in 1.85:1. most TV sets have horizontal adjust settings so you can make the picture appear more in the centre of the screen.

What player do you have? Most can't play anamorphic widescreen PAL on NTSC TVs. The newest "Wal-Mart Special" players like the Norcent DP-300 can (maybe also the even more recent DP-215) but they cannot be made "vcr friendly" by removing the macrovision protection. You win some, you lose some...
