I am pretty sure that with any Alienware Comp. you can customize it. So see if you can get the Sony instead, I have the external model and love it. Unfortunately I have not burned any DVD+R but I like the convience of being able to do so if I want.

  3. What is the reduction in price of them not putting in the Pioneer (are they using a Cendyne brand 105 or real Pioneer A05, No difference in hardware but the cost of adding a Cendyne OEMed one can be significantly lower). The cost of adding the x05 to a machine without it may be as low as $150 (especially if they add it to most of their machines they probably get a great deal), while the Sony will probably be closer to $250-$300 (especially if they do not add the Sony option to alot of machines, may not get such a great deal)

From a cost point of view you may want to gamble that the x05 for $150 more (or whatever the addon cost) will do the job you want, and if you find that it dosen't do the job, you can probably sell the x05 for $100-150 (or as much as you can get, just hope to break even for the cost of the initial addon) and then add the Sony yourself with the only major cost just being your time and effort.

  4. I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to burn +R. I have the a05 and don't regret my decision in the least. Many of the people I know who have the Sony rarely, if ever, burn the +r because the media is more expensive, and the results are the same. -r will not become obsolete until the blu-ray burners come out and become affordable, and +r will be obsolete then too. The -r is just as compatable with standalones as +r is, if not more so. However, if you are just dying to be able to burn both formats, then go for it.

  5. Why not buy the new Lite-On DVD recorder. It can burn both format for a cheaper price than Sony. i have one and I love it.
