  1. I made a small Star Wars movie with my kids and thought that it would be fun to add the spoof "Troops" as one of the chapters on the VCD.

I downloaded the highest-quality segments from the web and joined them in Adobe Premiere. I then converted them from a .mov file to MPEG2 using ffmpeg.

The quality is OK, but the audio and video are out of sync by more than 20 seconds. I'm sure this is due to the 22kHZ mono sound and 24fps of the original download.

Does anyone have a better copy of Troops in MPEG1 or 2? or a better method for converting?

An official copy of Troops was released with the first issue of Total Movie magazine a few years back. The only issue is that the "Bad Boys" theme was re-recorded as "Bad Droids" I'm sure due to copyright issues. I ripped the video and replaced the audio with the online "original" version to an MPEG1 file quite a while ago. I may still have it around. I've seen the DVD/magazine go for up to $40 on ebay.

  3. You could try TMPGEnc to encode the .MOV - you need a file, which can be found if you start by looking for MOV to MPEG conversion using a guide in the guide section to the left. Try that
    Thx in Advance!!

  4. You can get the official version of Troops and many other star wars fan movies on www.theforce.net I haven't seen theforce.net mentioned anywhere on this site so I figured maybe you haven't seen it. It is quicktime format as with most (if not all) of the movies there, but I am pretty sure that TMPGenc will do what you want. I haven't done any .mov conversions yet, so I have no idea of quality. On a side note, since you made a movie with your kids, there is a section there on adding lightsabre effects and other stuff too. Just thought that might be of use to you.

  5. Thanks for the ideas. The Troops copy I have is pieced together from the highest quality clips on www.theforce.net. But the resolution is only 320x240 and the audio is 22Hz mono.

The MOV to MPEG path isn't a problem, it's just the final un-synced product, due to the lowsy original.

I would like to get a copy of the Total Movie version of Troops; anything with a little better quality so that the final MPEG works better.

Anyone know where it's posted on the net?

There is one copy of the magazine available on ebay right now. And the quality of the short is much better than the force.net download. Trust me.

I got it on a VCD lying around here that one of my bros friends gave me. Dont know the source or the legality of it all, but it seems proper VCD quality and fully in sync... get to sharing it online one day, if its legal of course
