  1. Hey...

I was just wondering how would I watch a movie that is on my pc on my tv which is a room or two away and which cables to use. I have a video card with a tv out and also a capture capture card with a tv out (Leadtek WinFast TV2000XP).

  2. Pick up your Pc and keyboard and mouse, then carry them over to the other room. ! or convert your movies to vcd/svcd/dvd spec burn them to cdrw and use your Dvd player. 40-60ft cable lengths are no good for puny little tv outs. Some Usa company sells a wireless transmitter .. you need something similar... which may not be legal in UK.

  3. Does your "VIDEO OUT" actually show DVD? My Laptop will only show black screen on my TV using "Video Out" mode. I even reduced "Hardware Acceleration as suggested and it still did not work. I would check before you spent money on cables, cards and wireless mouse traps.

Same here, I have a S-Video out and connected it to my tv one time and it showed everything on my monitor just fine but when I went to play a movie the part of the screen that showed the movie was black.

    Hey Slick Rick,
If Scarface's own suggestion doesn't work for you , why don jyou try taking jyour hardware acceleration all the way down and putting your display settings at 800x600?

Hope this helps you troubleshoot your problem.

    Invalid,
My voodoo3000 has no problem with video out, including DVDs. It automatically adjusts the screen res to 800 X 600. That's with a 15 foot S-video to RCA adapter and cable. The pic is excellent.
My SIS, on the other hand, requires you to reduce the res before it will even show you the TV out tab in the settings box. If you want to try a long enough wire, it shouldn't be that cost prohibitive. If the signal is too weak, you're out 10 bucks or so, and if you get 2 cables and a coupling, maybe you can use the shorter cables elsewhere.
    Worth a try.

  8. depending on how neat you can, or care to be, a friend of mine just cut some small holes in the bottom of his walls around the baseboard and ran some video cables from his pc to the tv. if you have a crawl space or basement you can be much cleaner, just drill a hole near the baseboard in each room, 1 behind your pc desk, 1 behind your tv/entertainment center and run the cables from under the house, that way nobody can see them. just thought about this though, if you live in an apartment, DONT do this.

  9. Anyone having problems with the Video-out, make sure you have actually specified PC output (ignore if you'va already done this).

Under Start/Settings/Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced (I think) there is an option to select either an external monitor or a TV. The symptom with the black box on the screen sounds very much like what I had till I set the adapter for external TV

    Overlay Problems:

If your computer video card has a TV out option but the screen playing the DVD or DivX or whatever is black (i.e., blank) then you have some sort of problem with the overlay. Make sure the media player you are using has hardware acceleration enabled.

I have a problem with this happening sometimes on my system ... just out-of-the blue. A re-boot fixes it for me.

Also make sure the TV-out connector has a cable connected to a TV that is ON before you turn the computer on.

That's right, I've got a 30 foot S-video lead and connected that from S-video out on the pc into one of those S-video to scart adapter boxes to connect to the scart on my old tv. I've now got a new tv with S-video in so don't need the box for that but can use it to put the pc output into a video recorder. You'll also need long stereo phono leads for audio of course.
