Hello,
Is it possible to burn a DVD Movie onto a CDR disk, without having to convert it to VCD or SVCD etc? What I want is to have a full quality DVD format movie, but because it is only about 5 minutes worth of stuff, don't want to burn to dvd disk. I've measured its filesize, and it is 500MB, so it should fit. Can you do this is on Ulead DVD Workshop? Will I have to have any special options for this? Or does a DVD-format movie HAVE to be on dvd?
Thanks in advance![]()

IF your DVD standalone is flexible enough, you may try burn your file as xSVCD.
Just demux your mpeg file and re-muxx it as SVCD using TMPGenc. A message gonna pop up in the end, but don't give it credit...
Now, burn your new remuxed mpeg as non compilant SVCD using Nero.
No menus and extras may help. Just the mpeg file.
Now try if that is playable to your standalone. If you are lucky, you gonna see it. If not, then try to other standalones.
Most "made in china" ones, gonna play it! -
what you want to do is create a minidvd you should do a search for topics regarding this. I've created minidvds that play ok on my computer, but i have yet to get one to work on a standalone player.

That's why I suggested him try xSVCD the way I describe it.
It has more changes to work with standalones that way, than create a miniDVD. -
Thanks for your help.
Yes, my dvd player is a made in china model. I tried converting the movie to svcd and was disappointed with the quality. Oh well. -
Then you simply have to demultiplexx your mpeg 2 file and re-multiplexx it as SVCD. You don't have to re-encode it to SVCD.
It is the so called "header trick".
No quality degration that way. -
On the left, under the "Other" heading, is a section called DVD Players - here you will find a comprehensive list, and what formats they play
Thx in Advance!! -
You need to know your DVD player's maximum playback bitrate from a CDR disc. This is not the same as a DVD disc. I have a Cyberhome DVD player and it can cope with bitrates up to 6Mbps. However, if you exceed this then the picture starts to hang and break up. As long as the bitrate of your MPEG 2 file is less than the maximum that your player can cope with, then you can quite happily burn it as a full DVD on a CDR disc and it will play fine. At the end of the day, it will only cost you 15p to find out!
