  1. Hi guys,

    I hope u can advise me. I'm a bit lost ...

I want to set up the DV camcorder so that it records and sends the video straight to the PC. And then we can author it onto DVDR.
I know i could do this by recording it onto DV tape, then hooking up to firewire port and transferring onto PC. But is there any way i could do it realtime ? (and possibly even bypass recording it onto dv tape)

I think i need a card with MPEG2 real time encoding. But Sonic say their SD500 costs a whopping $5,000 !! Thats way too much.

    I just want a semi-professional job. Any suggestions ?

    Thanks,
    Freddie

  2. if ur cam doesnt support analog-digital passthrough u will have to keep up copying it on DV then from there via firewire. as far as i know sony cam support that not all but some. im looking for a dv-cam supporting that as well. but im really not so sure about sony. there is (excl. that) no other way except copying the tapes on to ur dv cam and from there on to the pc. sorry about that.
well, if sb can help us pls tell us some cams which support the analog-digital passthrough!!! appreciated
    thx

  3. Thanks for the reply Tommy.

Could u explain a bit further what analog-digital passthough is ?
(I dont see where the anolog bit comes into it, since i thought it would all be digital ie dv cam to pc).

With regards to the dv cam, we currently have the Sony PC101.
But we may need to invest in a 3ccd camcorder - so something like the Sony VX2000 or Canon XL1S.

    Cheers

  4. I have Canon ZR45MV. I connect Analog input/output to VCR, and Firewire to Computer,If I leave tape in Cam, then my computer will start playing tape when I capture, but If there is no tape in cam then computer will capture input signal from VCR. I use DVIO to capture.

question - if you hook up your camera to a tv, can you watch the camera's output in real time?

if so, then you're good to go - try the Aver EZDVDmaker capture card - it's a decent card, it's inexpensive (mine was $50, but it goes on sale now and again for as low as $10 after rebates) and it comes with NeoDVD standard, which will allow you to capture mpeg2 in real time.

I find with this card that the quality is better if I capture as avi and convert to mpeg2, but it's still pretty decent going direct to mpeg2.
