  1. I've been trying to DVD rip and convert "The Green Mile" to svcd but every time I do it there is no sound. I'm using this guide ............................
https://www.videohelp.com/sefy/?id=ClassicalGuide.html. I've used this several times with no problems. I've tried it at least 5 times and even on another computer. I've searched through the forums and still can't figure it out. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  2. I have also been having this problem. But I do have an idea on why it is happening.

I don't know about yours, but the DVD I am using has AC3 audio, which TMPGenc can't read. I am trying to get it to MPEG-1.

Here's my problem, I'd bet your is similar

I ripped mine with CladDVD XP, as it frameserves things automatically, and when I use SmartRipper and DVD2AVI it never seems to be able to read it in TMPGenc.

So I now have my VOB's, my D2V file, and a WAV file.

When I try to encode there is no audio with the video. I find this odd though since I can listen to the WAV in WinAmp and it sounds fine. (But when I try to open it in Soundforge it can't read the file)

I have tried renaming it to .ac3 and converting it, but Headac3he doesn't regocnize it as AC3 and Besweet just shuts down after about a second.

I tried running AC3fix on it and that doesn't do any good, the problem still remains.

Any suggestions for these problems folks?

  3. convert the audio separetly with TooLAME. Then mux the audio to the video later.

  4. hmmm...i do that and it says illegal MPEG audiostream....

  5. TooLAME says that? Or TMPGEnc when trying to mux?

  6. Toolame does it's thing and when it goes back to TMPenc it gives me that message.

Oh, it does create a one Kilobyte MP2 file, but thats it.

  7. i have the same problem...i overcome this problem by un-installing all software dvd players and codecs....(keep divx and mp3 codecs, just un-install know problem codecs) and then install power dvd 3....i dont kbow why but only power dvd 3 seems to allow it to work.....must put a different ac3 codec in to the system that tmpgenc likes....not sure if this will work for you...but it works for me....

  8. Try this.

Rip in DVDDecrypter, then open the .vobs in DVD2AVI (instead of having smartripper or cladxp do it for you, these programs sometimes have problems) set the audio to whatever track and select "decode". Then check for film source (if it is, then check forced film), then save you project.

  9. The .wav file that DVD2AVI creates should work. Might be a problem with the .ac3 decoder in SmartRipper or CladXP.

  10. the thing about decoding the ac3 in dvd2avi is that it takes a while.....i dont have a slow machine either....is it normal to take a while.....how long does it take you to decode it?

  11. A while

    Just let it go. 45min?

  12. Turn off 48hz to 44.1 though

    really slows things down

  14. How about not using smart ripper?!

    Try something eles, like DVDDecrypter.

  15. An update on my part, I just reformatted and re-installed my system, because of someother problems I've been having, but the 'no sound' error remains. Did get the newest version of CladDVD (sweet, but no luck)

Anyway, the only codecs I've got installed now are Divx, so thats not an issue anymore. About to finally try some of the other stuff recommended in this thread.

A thought, for those others having this problem, was there anything uniquely different about this DVD? Mine is a DVD set from Japan. (It is region free and has excellent enlgish voices) somehow they got 26 episodes onto 3 DVD's. I'm wondering if there's some other weird compression we're dealing with here.

  16. Ok,

I have tried everything I can think of, I may just have to give up on this one.

Just out of curiousity mate could you run cladDVD .NET 3.0 on the dvd in question, set it all up as you did before, titles set & PGC, then look in the cladDVD .NET 3.0 installation folder, they'll be a file there called: infoDVD.log, send it me.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the email.
    Can I just quickly ask:

Is the movie length correct? It's says 3hours 41min (221mins)
Did you choose Track 2 when you enabled the FrameServer?
What size is the WAV file that you get on your Hard Drive (exactly in KB)?

  19. The movie length is correct. It is a bunch of episodes of a show, but they are all one big file seperated by chapter points.

    I chose track 2 yes.

The size in KB would be 2,552,168.108

  20. Just to let everyone know, (if anyone else has this problem) I've solved this.

The audio file was fine, it was just too big.

It is a DVD of a Japanese TV show. They sell the sets of the whole show on Ebay for about $30 (like a lot of anime). About 9 episodes are crammed onto one disc, making a 26 episode show three DVD's

Each disc is broken into 5 VOBs, but set up as one giant 4-5 hour program chain. (for a reason I can't fathom)

So When ripping I was getting one huge VOB and one huge WAV file.

Apparently most programs (except Winamp, I've noticed) cannot handle WAVs that long.

I have ripped the smaller VOBs directly and frameserved them one at a time, so now I have 5 managable chunks, instead of one huge file. The audio is now working perfectly. I will have to do a little bit of cutting and pasteing now but the video and audio are both there.
