Does the software I use to capture DV via firewire make any difference on the quality, or is it all basically the same? It seems to me at least with Ulead Videostudio, the captured video is quite a bit worse than the original VHS tape quality. Maybe im just doing something wrong i dont know about or smth.
kthx.

When capturing in DV format you shouldn't lose any quality as the capture is an exact replica of the original. When you say that the quality doesn't look as good as the original VHS, what are you viewing it on? If you view a video source (VCR, camcorder or whatever) on a TV it will look far better than if viewed on a computer monitor. The reason for this is the poor quality of the TV which hides jagged edges, pixelation, blurred images, etc. The monitors much superior display will show everything.
If you have TV out capability you will be able to see the difference by looking at the same image on a TV and your monitor. The TV makes crap quality look good! -
I though there was no different before. I tried more than eight different capture DV software. Eventually, I find the Sonic Foundry Vegas Video V4.0 has better quality than others.
