    Hi Guys !

I bought a Sony DVD burner Sony DRU-500 A(X) and i am fully satisfied but i wanna know how much data can i fit on a DVD ?

I mean i read a tutorial of DVD-9 to DVD-5 saying that i should setup to 4.32 Gb but the Blank DVD-R that i got (OPTODISK) says that it can fit 4.7 Gb (ref # OR 470-000). So why do i need to setup InstantCopy to 4.32 Gb ?

Can somebody help me to understand this issue ?

    Thank you very much !

    4.7 gigaBITS = 4.38 gigaBYTES

    Your computer works in BYTES.
    Discs sold in BITS.

    Why? Good question.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Why? For the same reason CRT monitors are often rated in Size and viewable size. Bigger number = more good. Who cares if they have meaning to the average user right?

    4 700 000 000 bytes / 1024 = 4 589 843 Kb
    4 589 843 Kb / 1024 = 4 482mb
    4 482mb / 1024 = 4,377Gb

Same for HD.. they count by 1000 insted of 1024
