On a similiar, but not quite, thread. Those "digital Cable TV decoders" that are in all are spam emails are all fake. That is, they do do something, but not what everyone thinks. They descramble nothing. They block you digital cable box from talking back to the master control computer. This disables all the digital features like pause, and FF. It also eliminates on on-demand ability. In fact, I can't think of much use for the thing.
Take it from an old cable TV engineer, there is no way to add an external little device and get free digital cable TV. Don't waste your money, it's a scam!

I was doing a search on how to back up PS2 games and I stumbled upon this site.

Its pretty hilarious at what they claim their software does.

There has to be a way to stop these frauds from doing this. I mean at least the ebay auction was just selling freeware and the software will work. This software is just outright lying. -

I found the Top Secret Mega-CD on an FTP a few months back, being curious by nature, I downloaded it, and it's crap. Comes with programs that can readily be downloaded from almost any MPEG/AVI related site. It is total crap.

I have to say, I don't have a huge problem with people selling freeware, unless the author specifically discourages it. Some people have really slow connections, some want others to do the work of finding and assembling the software.... if someone is either too lazy or not able to find and download thier own software, and is willing to pay the price, I can't fault people for putting it on a disc and selling it.
Look at various Linux distros... the distro company is assembling software, which you can get off the web, putting it on a disc, and charging you a nominal fee for it....
As long as they aren't violating a prohibition against selling the software... we can't condemn them for preying on the uninformed (if you want to start tilting at that windmill, try the church...) - all we can do is keep sites like this thriving and providing the information so people can do it themselves.

I didn't really read the list of software so I assumed that it was freeware. The point is, the software will work. They will be paying for something they could get for free, but it will work as described.
The the software thats on the link, has all sorts of outright false information on it. I especially like the one where it says game will play on any console, xbox on ps2, ps2 on xbox. There is currently no software capable of doing this. -
There are some many of these progs about I bet they all stem from the same person because all of them are so similar.

Aint illegal to sell freeware collections so long as you claim it as such... anyone remember the good ol' thing that was the Public Domain Disc Library?
You do usually have to get the author's permission first however..-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more! -
