    Is there a stand alone dvd player available in the USA that will play PAL region free dvd's? If so which one and where would be the best place to purchase such a machine?

    Apex DVD players will play PAL and many of them you can defeat the region protection. I would run over to the local circuit city and give it a whirl for $47

    All Philips DVD's have built PAL-NTSC converters and you can easy unlock all regions.
    I have model 724AT and works great.
    Also this model plays all kind of media with no problems
    "The Good Guys". . .$119.00
